You are doing so good Robin!! That is a wonderful idea about the bears. I would have them sitting near me to remind me of where I have come.

That's wonderful too about your shoulder. Soon you will have that behind you also.

Hey, ROBIN, just checking in on your last posts.
You are doing GRRRRRRRR-EAT! Just a little 'bear' congratulations there....
You are getting on down there, girl. Proud of your accomplishments.
So good of you to stick around to encourage everybody.
I'm mostly a little under goal now, but there's always a few more pounds we'd like to lose, right?.
I may go out and hunt up a little bear.
Take care...

Hey, Bette, nice to see you dropping in, too. The bears are a nice idea, aren't they? Just kind of a nice touch, I thought.

I'm looking at another 10 pounds or so, to maybe 115. I figure I love the food I'm eating, and I'm having no trouble at all sticking to it, so I might as well stay on it and see what I can do. Although I still have to fight for every ounce.

Finally got a good workout in. I'm trying to get my running going again, and this time I'm focusing on distance instead of duration. I'm hoping to beat last year's time in the Jingle Bell Run, on Dec. 6.

So anyway, Sunday I ran a mile and then walked a little over 3 (to total an hour). Today I ran 1.25 and walked uphill for 3. I'm hoping this weekend to run 1.5.

But then I was so happy about my run that I forgot my midmorning snack at home, and I don't have anything quite right in my stash at work. I think I have something that's just a few calories over, so I'll go with that. But argh.

Grrrrrr. Weight's been up all week now, and I'm not sure what's up. Still on plan, still working out, etc. Bit of a sandbox issue, which I'm hoping is the problem, but I'm not sure why I have THAT right now, either. I'm trying not to let any of it bring me down too much, though. It's Friday, I'm going to see a play tomorrow, the weather's beautiful, the election is almost over ... life is pretty good on all other fronts. But GRRRRR.

Hang in there Robin. You are pushing your exercise a bit so could be your body catching up... amongst other things.

I'm gonna get down the to fitness center today. I typically do 3 days of treadmill and 2 days of weights. I'm not up to the running stage yet, but fast walking yes. I started out doing the extreme uphill mode but then pulled a tendon in my foot - OMG that hurt and was off heels for a bit. I'm afraid to start hills again, but I think I'll do it gradually. It gives you a better workout.

How was your Halloween?

Hiya, Robin!

Doncha hate when that happens and you're not sure why? I know Dr. A and others all say that it's simply Calories In vs. Calories Out -- sure doesn't feel that simple sometimes!

I know for me this weather change gets me every time -- be it migraines, water retention or loss, whatever.

You continue to amaze and inspire me.

It's definitely not just calories in, calories out. My calorie level hasn't changed; I haven't cheated once on the new program. And my calories out are about the same, although I did miss a couple of workouts because of some sinus problems. But I also got some great ones in, so I was pretty much on target there, too. There is NO reason I should be up 2 pounds from where I was 10 days ago. Very irritating.

OTOH, I finally broke down and did a little shopping yesterday because all my pants are loose. I seem to be somewhere between a 4 and a 6 (in some brands, 4 is still a tad snug but the 6 is too big; in others, 4 is just right). Got two pairs of pants and two tops (because my winter tops are mostly mediums and too big, or they're too dark to go well with black pants; I got 'em last year when I could wear jeans every day). Anyway, the pants all need to be shortened (even the petites!), but thankfully I also bought a belt that fits.

Nothing else to report. Had to bake two cakes yesterday for a bday at the office (I need to learn to say no). Just tasted enough icing/batter to make sure it was OK. Oh, and I see the ortho again (well, not really again; this is his replacement because my doc left) this afternoon about my shoulder. Just a recheck.

Everyone, please remember to vote tomorrow! (Especially if you're voting for my preferred candidate. Ha.)

Politics can be so divisive that I won't even ask who your preferred candidiate is because I like you. :) But I will vote for my preferred candidate.

I agree, it cannot be as simple as calories in/out, because then everyone would be thin because it would always work to eat less, and that's just not the case. By that theory, if I'm maintaining my weight, then I should just cut out some calories and I will lose without doing anything else. But before MF, no diet ever worked unless I was also exercising. And even on BL some contestants have bad weeks when you know they are burning thousands of calories. Metabolism is much more complicated than just that simple formula, I think.

I hope you are back down in no time, though - the thing that makes you hold weight also lets go of it eventually so enjoy the new skinny clothes and don't buy too many - you'll probably be a 2 or even a 0 at the end of it!

Oh Robin, I can sympathize with you. I only lost 1.5 pounds this week and I stayed on track...as a matter of fact I was one pound less last Tuesday than what I am today. What gives....and I am only on week 2. Go figure.

Congratulations on all the running you are doing...that's great!! I hope all goes well with the ortho today.

Ha. Nicks, I specifically didn't mention a candidate for just that reason. t's far too divisive these days, and it's caused some real problems on my other forum (they had to shut down all political threads because it got way too personal).

I'm not crazy about the new ortho doc; I may need to go back to the other guy. He's still on our insurance; it's just not as easy to visit him because he's at a different location now, not on our campus. But this woman isn't really a sports-medicine specialist. She told me to keep taking the Celebrex, come back in three months, do the PT exercises and stretches religiously and avoid push-ups or any weightlifting that involves lifting higher than shoulder level - forever, because it stresses the rotator cuff. That's not what the original guy said, OR what the therapist said.

Oh, and the cakes sure were popular. They were gone in a flash. (And nope, just the two pairs of pants, and only because they were pretty cheap. Till I reach my new goal, I'm going to have to make do with the new belt. But geez, the belt's a small and I'm already midway through the holes.)

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Donna (and any other newcomers I missed). Took the morning off from the treadmill because I forgot the Benadryl last night. Argh. I'm probably going to walk to my PT appointment, though, unless it starts raining. It's not far (maybe a mile and a half round-trip), but I have to find out how to get there, with all the construction around. I usually just take our little campus shuttle.

I used to be a huge CNN junkie, back in the day. I was a journalist till a few months ago, so I got a bit burned out. Last night I was flipping from channel to channel, because everyone had different electoral-vote totals. And then I managed to doze off when Obama had, I think, 207. Next thing I knew, I woke up and he had 289 or something like that, and it was all over. Sigh. I can't believe it was over before my ridiculously early bedtime and I STILL missed it!

Weight is still off a bit, probably because my tummy still is, too. I don't know what's up, but I think it's time to take some more drastic steps to fix it.

I thought he gave a good speech. It will be interesting to see what happens when he takes office.

Enough politics, then. :)

I read Katie's journal where you told her to have an extra shake - I remember you've said that to me before, when I've had trouble. I thought of doing that yesterday but somehow that feels just as bad to me as going completely off plan. Any ideas for how I can make that extra shake seem like the better choice? I'm not sure why I have such resistance to it, other than maybe my perfectionism. I'm either supposed to be 100% on plan according to the 5&1 rules, or I'm supposed to be off in a grand and horrible way. Can't seem to make myself believe it's OK to break the rules just a little bit to get by for a day. Am I just nuts?

I hope you can find where you're going for your appointment today. Maybe you'll get a few whistles with all that construction. ;) I know, that's a big stereotype, but still fun to think about.

I just took the shuttle. So much easier, and I could see en route that there aren't even sidewalks - or really anywhere safe to walk - on long stretches. So it's probably just as well. Took the stairs back up to the sixth floor, though, so that's something. C'est la vie.

As for the extra shake being off-plan, it's not. It's the first thing the Medifast folks will tell you to do, especially in those first few days. It maintains the carb/protein/fat balance, it's only 100 extra calories, it helps you stay in the Medifast mindset ...

On a positive note, the therapist gave me some exercises and stretches to do on my own, and said I'm done. And disagreed with the doc (well, he said he didn't want to, but he made it clear) and said he fully expects me to be completely recovered in a few months. He said he would never tell anyone not to take meds the doc prescribed, but said if it was him, he would do the same thing I plan to do, and try to go without the Celebrex for a few days to see what happens. And then just keep it around in case I need it later. He even gave me some exercises that involve lifting a weight (or using a resistance band) above shoulder height. Hmph.
