Sigh. Yeah, I just have the one car, which can be a pain.

Bad news: The dealer said my power steering pump is dying. They want $725 to fix it.
Good news: A place my friend recommended said they can replace it for $350. I have an appt Thursday, and I'm hoping I can get a ride to synagogue with my friend that day, and then just pick it up on our way home. It's Yom Kippur, so I'll be off anyway. Hopefully the pump can hold out till then.

Ack. My friends both have to work, so no ride Thursday. I may need to rent a car AGAIN.

Anyway, got my car back for the moment and it seems fine for now. Had PT this morning, and he (and a doc who happened to be there observing) think I should definitely get the shot tomorrow, plus the doc recommended a couple of pain meds that might not make me sick. He said my symptoms sound like an allergic reaction to salicylic acid. Both said to stop the stretches and exercises until after the shot and after my shoulder feels better (I already had, anyway, because it was all causing so much pain). Sigh.

Re: exercise, walked this morning but only 30 minutes because I had to leave early to pick up my car and return the rental in time to get to my PT appointment.

Well, at least you know there's nothing else left to go wrong, right?

Dang, you've got a lot on your plate! When will they do the shot?

My appt's tomorrow afternoon. Just in time for it to hurt at Yom Kippur services. Ha.

And don't tempt fate like that! The car has so many breakable parts! And I live in fear of tearing my rotator cuff right now. Sigh.

Up a little this morning, thanks to a big ol' dose of sodium yesterday (worth it, though). My shoulder was acting up a lot still, so I walked for the hour and boosted the incline instead of even trying to run. I see the doc again today, and then tonight Yom Kippur starts (no fasting for me, though, since I'm assuming by then I'll be on a new med).

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I hope if you are put on new meds that they help. You are still doing wonderfully though MFing. You are an inspiration even when 'life happens.'

Thanks, Suzy. I don't know if it's the cortisone or the Celebrex, but my shoulder's finally starting to feel better. It's still not normal, but it's MUCH improved. I'm going to give it another day or two and then start the PT exercises again and see how it goes.

Oh, geez, I didn't realize I didn't post about it here. OMG, it hurt SO much, all the way down my arm. It actually hurt so much that I started laughing uncontrollably. The doctor said it must not be so bad if I'm laughing and not crying, and I said, "I'm doing both!" Tears were streaming down my face, I just kept saying "oh, crap, oh, crap, oh, crap" over and over, and I was laughing like a madwoman. It was very odd.

Just stopping in briefly. Anyone want some motivation for losing weight and exercising? My brother, who is 49 and diabetic (just like my parents) and hypertensive (just like my parents), does not take care of himself. Last night I got the call I've been dreading: He had a heart attack, had two stents put in and was in the ICU. They say he's going to be all right, but I've heard that before so I'll believe it when I see it.

Right now I'm just waiting till it's late enough on the West Coast for me to call my sister-in-law and get an update so I can figure out whether I should be getting on the next plane or staying here and buying my car (which just seems bizarre to me right now, but if I AM staying here, I guess there's no reason NOT to).

Sorry to hear about your brother and really hope all will be ok. He really is young but not taking care of yourself does take a toll on us eventually. Sounds like you have a lot of health issues in your family and glad you are taking control. Think positive thoughts.

Hope your shoulder is feeling better.

So sorry to hear about your brother. I sure hope he is okay. You are in my thoughts.

I had a cortisone shot before and you are so right - they hurt really bad...but they help tremendously in taking away pain. I had wrist problems and one shot took care of it. The only strange thing that happened to me is about 6 months later I had this discoloration on my wrist - like I had lost the pigmentation and it was slightly indented. I go to a dermatologist for hand eczema and I asked him about it...his first question...have you had a cortisone shot....it took about a year to go away. So if you end up with any discolorations - you will know what it's from.

Please keep us updated on your brother.

Thanks, you guys. I just talked to him. He's out of the ICU and in a regular room; he's even allowed to walk to the bathroom by himself. They're monitoring him now, and he's supposed to go home tomorrow or Monday (depends on which doctor you ask, he says).

He had an angiogram, angioplasty and two stents put in, and he's still in enough denial that he says it wasn't a heart attack because he wasn't in cardiac arrest. Sigh.

And no car yet. They wouldn't meet my price on my trade-in, so I walked. They've already called me once since then and said they'll be calling again. So we'll see. If not, I'll go somewhere else. I figure right now they need me a lot more than I need them.

Hey, Robin,

Dang, I had no idea those shots hurt so much! Do you feel like it's helping? How long will it last? I hope you don't have to do it again soon!

Good job holding out on what you really want for the car. I think you're right, you're the one holding the cards.

I'm so sorry to hear about your brother! And I'm so glad you've gotten to talk to him and he's up and moving around. My dad has always been super healthy - an avid jogger and goes to the gym 5-6 days a week for at least an hour at a time. He had the same thing happen, though. That was two years ago and he's doing great now. Maybe this will be a wake-up call for your brother to take care of himself.

Stay safe on your trip and enjoy your family.

Hi,
Sorry the shot sucked, sorry about your brother, but so glad he's walking around (if only to the potty!), and sorry that the car folks made you walk. I had to do the same thing a couple of times, but they seemed to call and get much closer to my offer!

Hope your wing feels better!
