Yeah, I'm working on it. I'm still not quite up to par, but I ran 17 minutes today and walked the rest of the hour. It's not 30 minutes of running, but at least it's something. And we're supposed to get rain this weekend. YAY!!

I'm not sure if I mentioned it on here, but I did decide to do the Restaurant Week dinner this weekend, after all. I figure I've stuck to the program 100 percent, I'm making great progress, and there's no question that it'll be limited to the one meal (and I won't even be going so crazy, since it's a set menu and everything; I'll ask for sauces on the side and extra veggies instead of my starch, and just enjoy my meal).

Hi, Laura. I dunno ... probably sheer terror at the thought of gaining it all back? I've done it before, and I really, really, REALLY can't stand the idea of being fat again. Plus I think I've finally learned to actually LIKE healthy foods. And if not enjoy exercise itself, I now at least appreciate the benefits I get from it.

Speaking of which, I have GOT to do a DVD this afternoon. I didn't run this morning because we had a big storm during the night (yay for rain!!), which meant I was up from 3 a.m. on with the dogs. It finally quieted down at almost 5 (although Teemu was still tunnelling under me), so I turned off the alarm and stayed in bed a little longer so I could at least doze off a little.

I think that's a great reason to keep it off! :) I hope the fear is enough to keep me on track, too!

Ha. It's a great motivator.

And yay. No DVD, but instead I went for a long and very brisk walk with two co-workers. We were gone almost an hour, walking VERY fast, and up and down hills and such.

Sigh. A rare weekend post for me. But re: my big dinner tonight, God or fate or the universe made the decision FOR me. I came down with a cold yesterday, which is even worse this morning. I can't really taste anything, so there seems to be no point in going to a fancy, expensive, four-star dinner. So packaged diet lasagna it is.

I'm still going to try to get a good run in, though. If it's too hard, I'll walk. But a cold's no reason to bail on my workout!

Hey, Rob, sorry you got sick. I hate summer colds, they always seem particularly cruel, the idea of a cold seems much more fitting in the winter months! And true, a cold shouldn't stop you from your work out UNLESS you get a chest cold with cough, at which time you won't have the respiratory strength to do cardio, and you should just chill a bit, or walk slllllooooowwwww...

Either way, hope you feel better soon, and sorry you missed out on your grand dining experience!

Cheers,

Lauren

Argh. It actually DID mess up my workout Saturday. My sinuses were so messed up that I got dizzy while I was walking and cut it short. The good news is, I think it was allergies and NOT a cold (funny how a couple of hours after I canceled on dinner, I felt almost normal again).

Anyway, did a short run yesterday but walked the rest of the hour, and then walked the full hour today (except I had to slow down a hair halfway through). I'm wondering if my recent workout issues are because I stopped eating before hitting the treadmill (which is how I used to do it, but maybe now my body's used to getting a few calories first). Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to try scarfing down a piece of fruit while I feed the dogs, and I'll see if that helps.

Yeesh. So yesterday afternoon, one of my friends at work called me to a bathroom a couple of floors down because she was having some tummy issues and needed some Pepcid or something. I went down, and she was in far worse shape than she had let on. Diarrhea, nausea, horrible stomach cramps ... at one point she just lay down on the floor of the bathroom. I finally told her I thought she needed to go to the ER. She couldn't walk, so I "borrowed" a chair from the lab next door (and got to see a tray full of dead mice in the process; ugh) and wheeled her to the ER (thankfully, most of the buildings here are connected). She started throwing up on the way, and by the time we got there she was barely conscious.

So anyway, I was there for a few hours with her, until her sister came. She's OK; they think it's food poisoning, so she's home right now with instructions to come back if she develops a fever. (As an aside, this is the friend on the medically supervised liquid protein diet; it's similar to Medifast except, IMO, much worse. She meets with a dietitian and a doctor every week, but none of the people there seem to know what they're doing and they're very inconsistent in their instructions. And they don't care how few shakes she has a day, or how rarely she eats. It's crazy.)

Anyway, thankfully I had just had my snack before she called. Also thankfully, I'm so not hungry on this new program that I was OK even though I went a couple of extra hours without food. Weight's holding steady, but that's because I was having some sandbox issues of my own (same as always, though) and because my workouts still are not up to snuff. Still down my 5 pounds, though (and I think more once the sandbox thing clears up again; funny that I still have the problem with all the fiber and fruits and veggies I've been having).

Other than that, things are good here in DFW-land. I'm loving the rain and the cooler temperatures, and I'm insanely excited to be getting my new shipment of food today. I ordered a bunch of new stuff to try, plus enough of my favorites so I can have 'em each at least once a week. I can't wait to get home from work and unpack it all, though. And arrange all the packages, just like I used to do on Medifast. (Yes, I realize this makes my life sound incredibly pathetic.)

Not at all - I think a lot of us have the 'arranging bug' in common. Lists, arranging, categorizing - tons of fun!! Plus I feel a little bit of calm and safety when my cupboard is full of my MF favorites - I'm having some anxiety as I get low on cocoa....

I'm glad your friend is better. Is she enough of a friend that she'll listen to your concerns about her diet? I'm sure MF could be dangerous, too, if you didn't listen to the rules and decided if 5 shakes are good, 2 is better. Especially when you stop feeling hungry, that would be easy to do.

Nope. She's heard it from me - and from everyone else here, plus she got an earful from the doc last night. She HAS followed some of my advice, and is having something every few hours and eating lean protein and veggies for dinner (at least some of the time). I think this may have scared her enough to consider switching to something more sensible, though. I hope so.

Glad to hear you're still with us.

Meanwhile, no good deed goes unpunished. After my ER adventures the other night, I woke up today so dizzy that I actually toppled over a few times (near something soft, luckily). So I'm home for the day, and as much as I want to try some of the new foods I ordered, I'm probably sticking to the program's chicken noodle soup (and SO glad I have a big stockpile of it). In addition to my friend (who's still out with her stomach problem), two other people in our office have had some sort of stomach flu or something this week, so I'm guessing I'm the latest victim.

The nice thing is the office called to make sure I was OK and see if I needed anything, even though I live kind of far away. They said they know I live alone and have no family here, so they wanted me to know I could count on them. And that they'd be happy to grab an office chair and wheel me into the doctor if necessary.

Hey, Robin! Really sucks you got the tummy bug. :( At least you wiggled out of the cold, right?! ;)

I still haven't gotten back on the exercise wagon. *sigh* I was hoping it wouldn't be hard - shoulda known! I still get really tired, and at the end of the work day I just wanna go home and go to bed early. Maybe as my body finishes healing I'll start to get more energy back.

The rain's been nice, eh? I wish we'd gotten even more, but at least it cut the triple digits for a coupla days! Very nice!
