I just recently left a 20-year career in journalism to work in the PR department at a medical school (and medical center).

Ran 22 minutes, walked the rest of the hour. I'm going to do Callanetics again today.

Well, given the state of the newspaper industry, it really wasn't brave at all. It was that, or just wait to be laid off.

I like some things, but some of it takes getting used to. The slower pace, the manufactured quotes, etc. But I'm learning a lot about the medical research being done here, which is cool. And the health benefits are fantastic; our benefits at the paper (and other papers) had been declining for years.

And the people in the office are all ex-journalists except for two of 'em, so that makes it easier.

Argh. I feel like such a slug today. But when I was getting ready to run this morning, I felt very dizzy and lightheaded, so I decided not to even walk. I don't know if it's just a sinus thing, or if it was because I didn't have my usual water yesterday AND had extra salt when I ordered soup at lunch. (But yay for being pretty good even though I ate out again. Salad and some mushroom-barley soup FILLED with fresh mushrooms and one wheat roll.)

Anyway, still feeling kind of cruddy. I almost didn't want to work today because I was worried about driving, but I need to call for jury duty this afternoon and the notice was in my office.

There's a jury duty jinx on this forum!
Hope you get to feelin' better! I hate feeling nauseous - I'd rather ache somewhere than feel dizzy!

I'm with you. If I ached, I'd just take ibuprofen and at least WALK. But I draw the line when I'm so dizzy I'm afraid I'll fall off the treadmill. Sigh.

No jury duty still, but I need to call again Monday afternoon. And my friend's sick and just canceled our plans for tomorrow (although she's still going ahead with her plans Sunday; hmmmm). And I've been starving all day for some reason. Friday nights have been such a problem for me that I think I'm going to head off any cheating potential and get something better for dinner, like a steak. More calories/fat than I would normally have, but better than eventually giving into the siren song of the peanut butter and chocolate chips. Or the giant roast chicken carcass in my fridge.

Even the candy jar on my desk has been calling my name all day, and that NEVER happens.

I fall off the treadmill even when I don't feel dizzy! At the gym I see folks come in and turn it on to sprint speed - and just jump on and go! If I let go of the handles it's right off off the side for me. I'll know I'm a real exercise pro when I can drink from a water bottle and stay on the treadmill!

Good idea on the steak! The munchies have been haunting me lately, too! I've been drinking tons of water with flavor infusers to keep them away. I think it'll be a lot harder on maintenance for me to choose the right thing, though. Good thinking to head them off with a solid dinner!

I'm not usually a candy person, either, except for Reese's. And Kit Kats. DH has been home the last two days (his days off are Thurs. and Fri.) and apparently he's found a stash of Reese's peanut butter eggs. Man, I do love me some Reeses ... I keep finding tell-tale wrappers on his side of the bed. And he thinks he's being sneaky.

I did VERY well over the weekend, so I think I've solved my problem. I decided to just give in somewhat to that end-of-the-week feeling I keep getting. So I wound up getting lamb chops (but the smallest pack I could find, so that even if I ate both - which I did - it wouldn't be that bad) AND I planned for a special dessert (bananas with sugar-free chocolate syrup and Cool Whip Free). I felt VERY satisfied and as if I had cheated.

So the rest of my weekend went well, too. I ran hills Saturday, then ran 25 minutes of my hour Sunday. Didn't eat out, so decided to continue the non-splurge splurge, as it were, and had more lamb chops Saturday and a steak last night, plus a new dessert - raspberries and blueberries, more Cool Whip Free, and a small amount of dark chocolate (50 calories) melted in the microwave and drizzled over. Talk about indulgent! It seemed extremely decadent, and was totally within my limits. So yay for that! I'm going to try the same plan next weekend and see if it works again.

Then today I had another of those mornings where I seem to break into a sweat before I even get on the treadmill. Tried to just push past it, but I was struggling so much that I just got off. Maybe I should have at least walked slowly for the hour, but even 3.7 felt like too much, so I decided I'd be better off skipping it and hoping for better results when I do strength training this afternoon.

Ran hills today. Still was a little iffy, so I did three again instead of increasing to four. I'll save that for the weekend.

Also did Callanetics yesterday again, but I'm feeling the need for some push-ups, so I'm going to do one of the older Bob workouts today since I've been kind of slacking off on the strength training lately.

You are so dedicated! This past week I've let other stuff creep in and crowd out exercise time. I'm always inspired to get right back on track when I read your journal!

Thanks, Tex. It's why I do the treadmill first thing. It's SO easy for me to let life (or my Inner Couch Potato) get in the way.

Hey Robin,

Callenitics (sp) was recommended to me to spice up my fluidity bar routines, does it have bar work? Should I check it out?
