Cyd, it's definitely a nice compliment from him. Usually I'd think the person was just being nice, but I don't have to worry about that in THIS case!

And thanks, Katie. I can't TELL you how glad I am to be back. As for the job, it's OK but back to being extremely slow and boring (which usually makes me want to eat more, but so far I've been relatively OK about it). One good thing about working in a place like this is that most of my co-workers seem to be pretty into healthy eating, too, which helps a lot. At the paper, I was constantly surrounded by pastries.

Wow. My timing is apparently getting better and better. They just announced layoffs at my former paper, including two friends (one of whom I'm having Passover dinner with on Saturday). I'm so sad for them, but SO thankful I left when I did.

wow! Cute AND thin? That surely had to be a great ego boost! Glad you made it home safely, it sure sounded like an experience to remember. Keep in mind, everything happens for a reason and it seems like this new job came along JUST IN TIME!

Yeah, I'm SO thankful that I found this job. But I feel horrible for my friends and ex-colleagues. I hope they find something soon. The stupid paper's losing some of its best people, too. And keeping some who don't seem to do much of anything except collect a big, fat salary. Sigh.

Robin, glad you are back. Sorry to read about the hamstring pain, hopefully it will ease up fast. Rotten about the layoffs at the paper.

Thanks, T. It still hurts a bit, but I was able to run/walk this morning, anyway (and yes, I realize that's probably why it hurts so often; I'm probably re-injuring it all the time).

Bad news is I was apparently more distressed about things than I realized, and I ate far too much last night (nothing awful, but a few 100-calorie packs that I didn't need). Plus we had a huge storm, and the neighborhood's tornado sirens went off (first time since I moved to Texas!).

Wow! I heard a big storm last night way down here. I've always wondered what they'd do down here with no basements to run into when it storms.

I hope your hams feel better soon!

I took the dogs into an interior bathroom. Now I'm told I should also grab a mattress, get into the bathtub and pull the mattress over us. Oops.

Thanks for the info Robin. I've asked other peps here locally and they assure me that we don't get bad weather here.

I can't believe how slow things are here on the board. Usually I can't keep up with things cause it's moving so fast. I'm bored!

Hope things are great up there where you are!

Wow. Where do you live that you don't get bad weather? I'm from Southern California, and even WE had bad storms and such occasionally.

And I know, it's far too quiet around here these days. Not that I've been posting much, either, but still.

Just posting a response to be posting ;) and to say I hope your new job is going well, that your hamstring pain is completely gone and that life is good.

Hi, T!!!!

Heck, I'll post just to post, too. Things at the job are fine. Still not as fun as the paper (and, as one co-worker said, it lacks the "cool factor"), but nice. Food's been healthy but off this week because my planned dinner for the week didn't quite work out (I used some lemon juice that I've since decided must have gone bad or something) - so way more salt than normal because of some frozen dinners. So I've been good, but my weight's not dropping. Sigh.

What else? I've been pretty good on the treadmill, with a couple of shorter days because of some knee problems. Haven't done my PUSH workouts all week for various reasons (things like last night, when I got home late - only an hour and a half before bedtime and still had to have dinner AND deal with two terrified dogs because of the thunder; speaking of which, even Mojo was freaked out. I've never seen her that scared of anything before).

That's about it. Busy weekend ahead, but I'm going to make sure to do a better job of preparing meals for the week.

Just checking in as I get back on track. Did PUSH on Friday night after I got home from work. Got home too late last night to do it, so tonight I'm going to start doing half a workout each night instead.

Still doing well on cardio, and had my best time ever yesterday morning. Yay.

Food seems more in control, too. Had an unhealthy meal last night, but that was planned. Met out-of-town relatives in Dallas for brunch yesterday morning, and actually decided not to eat and to just socialize instead, and then had a serving of trail mix in the car (when we left the restaurant and headed to their hotel). Skipped the birthday mousse cake, too, but I knew that wouldn't be an issue (controlling myself at the buffet would have been much harder).

It was also nice to see probably the last group of relatives who haven't seen me for years and so haven't seen me thin. I never get tired of hearing the compliments!!

Today's food, just as kind of a maintenance update:
1) Tablespoon of raw trail mix before workout (trail mix is my current food phase)
2) 1/2 fritatta (spinach, mushrooms, onions, egg substitute with 1 tablespoon of crumbled bacon - 25 calories) and two small low-carb tortillas
3) Atkins shake
4) Frozen veggie-enchilada meal (280 cals, low fat, high fiber, etc.)
5) Protein shake or 3 tablespoons trail mix (150 cals; raw nuts and dried fruit)
6) Salad

I see myself in maintenance and I see things like birthday mousse cake being incredibly hard to avoid so I very much admire that! Luckily, I have some more time until I get to maintenance and hopefully I will continue to adjust in that time and be able to do things like give up cake at least 9/10 of the time it shows up on special occasions.

I never get sick of compliments, either! It must have felt so good to see family for the first time in a long while and really have a chance to show off your hard work. Feeling great for yourself is one thing, but it's always nice to have other people feeling great for you, too!

Do you make your own trail mix? Once I get to maintenance, trail mix is a favorite of mine, but I have a really hard time finding any where the dried fruit doesn't have added sugar and that drives me nuts. Fruit is sweet enough as it is!

I've been buying some "all-natural" mixes that aren't too bad on sugar, but I actually decided the other day that when I run out I'm going to make it myself. That way I can toast the nuts to bring out the flavor without adding any oil, and pick exactly what I want (although finding the dried fruits without sugar might still be a challenge). Of course, by then I'll probably be out of this phase, anyway.

And absolutely, on the compliments. I did all this for myself and my health and all that, but also to look good in jeans. So it's always nice to hear it from other people.

As for the cake, my basic rule on birthday cakes (which is occasionally broken, but not often) is it's only OK to indulge when it's MY birthday. I don't get to celebrate everyone ELSE'S birthdays with cake. (It also helped that I knew I was already going to have something bad for me later in the same day - several of the big chefs in town have opened burger joints, and this was the third one we were trying, so I knew I was going to have a burger, fries and a little shake that night - cause his specialty is his "milkshake of the day." So that was my treat for the week, and I'm going to try to behave myself until at least next weekend, if not beyond.)
