Robin, glad to read that you're feeling better this morning. I'm wondering if you have the influenza with the symptoms you are mentioning. It does have a tendency for the symptoms to return, just when you think you're feeling all better. It takes a long time (weeks) to get back to 100%.....You probably already knew all that. :) Just the mom in me coming out again. ;)

So, how did it go when you gave your notice at work?

Yeah, T, they tested me at my first doc visit. I had influenza A and a sinus infection on top of it. On the second visit (after a round of Tamiflu and antibiotics), they checked to see if the sinus infection was bacterial or viral (it was viral, so there wasn't much they could do). It's been over two weeks now, so I'm very glad to be feeling almost 100 percent.

It actually went very well when I gave notice. My boss said how sorry she is to lose me and how great I'll do at the new place, but there isn't a single person here who doesn't understand why I'm leaving. And now that two of us have left the department since our last hire (who was really just a transfer, since there's a freeze, and he was moved in after we lost two MORE people), they're going to fill my spot somehow (probably another transfer). So I'm happy to hear that, and I feel less guilty about leaving my colleagues in the lurch.

And now that I got a workout in, I feel much more positive about the new job - and about life, in general. I've been struggling with food lately, partly because of the illness and partly because I haven't had my workouts as an outlet. So I'm SO glad I was able to at least walk, and I'm going to do my PUSH workout tonight - although I'll do one of the earlier ones, since I don't think I can manage the one-armed pushups and one-legged squats just yet.

And my hamstring is aching, so now I REALLY feel like myself again.

Did my PUSH workout last night, but because I was laid up so long, I went back to the previous workout. Got through most of it, but struggled with the push-ups and dolphins. Not bad, though, considering, and felt much better for having done it. Got up this morning and did the same walk as yesterday, with the same whopping 2 minutes of running. Pulse rate was too high to do anything more than that.

But thankfully, the couple of pounds I gained while I was sick (probably mostly salt from all the canned soup, but also probably some from all the chocolate and peanut butter and from barely moving for more than two weeks) have pretty much departed already. 131 today, with no doubt that I'll be dropping down even further now that I'm back to my routine. Good timing, since I need to buy some more nice pants before I start the new job.

So Robin, how's the weather down there? I heard Dallas had snow today. We expect another 8 inches tonight into tomorrow, but right now it's raining.

You got the job? Somehoe I missed that. Congratulations!

Congrats on getting the new job!

Sorry you are feeling crappy. It seems like I was sick for 4 months straight and it sucked. Fuzzy socks and warm sweats always make me feel better. And a double shot of NyQuil too!

Hey, Jo. We did have what passes for snow around here. It was pretty much just flurries and a little sleet; most of the snow was farther north. And of course, the next day it was already back up to 45 or 50 and sunny (of course, that's FREEZING here). (And yup, got the job. I have orientation a week from Monday and then start the actual job the next day.)

Hi, Beth. Thankfully, I'm finally pretty much better. Slight cough, still a little tired, but otherwise OK. Now I just need to get back into my normal food and workout routines. I've done well avoiding chocolate, but my meals aren't quite where I want them to be, and I can't work as hard as I'm used to on the treadmill because my heart rate goes up way too much. And I'm struggling a little to get back on track with my PUSH workouts. I figure it'll probably take a few weeks to get back to normal, between the illness, the time change (which I never do well with) and the new job and slight change in hours.

But I'm off to the treadmill now, even though it's really late for me. And then out to pick up groceries for the week and get my food all ready to go. No excuses this week, except that I'm going out to eat more than usual. But I'm not going to go crazy when I do.

After 3 weeks on MF I am going to go back to exercising again. I plan on starting with burning 100 cals per day on my treadmill to start. How long should that take? 5-6 minutes? I have no excuses.

Ha. Longer than that, but not too long. But hey, it's a start.

I did about 35 minutes today, no running, and then stopped because I was feeling very lightheaded and just ... wrong somehow, like I broke out in a cold sweat. Argh.

it's funny how we think our body is almost completely healed then the body screams back at us! BTW, what exactly is a dolphin?

Start out in plank position, horizontal to the floor, with your toes and forearms touching the ground. Hold that for a bit, then push down through your forearms and raise your hips as high as you can, pushing your heels toward the floor. Hold, then lower down. That's one dolphin.

Did my PUSH workout last night, then we had thunder during the night, so of course I was up with Teemu. Between that and the time change, I decided not to get up when the alarm went off. So I got a bit more sleep but didn't work out. I hate doing the treadmill at night, but I may at least take a walk on it after dinner.

I also was STARVING last night, and ended up having some Fiber One cereal a little before bedtime. Sigh. Still, my weight's dropping back to normal even though it was a less-than-stellar weekend. I'm just going to do what I can till things settle down, and try not to stress too much.

Had a dentist appt this morning, and I actually was good and got up at 5 a.m. so I'd have time to work out. Did my normal hourlong workout (although still running for only five minutes and walking at a slower pace to keep my heart rate down), and actually felt normal afterward instead of exhausted, so I think I'm finally better. Yay for that.

But on the negative side, I had more trouble with nighttime eating, which is odd since I've never really been a nighttime eater before. I'm hoping to exercise a little more control tonight, so I can get THAT back to normal, too.

WTG on the workouts! Could the hunger at night be caused by so many calories being used up earlier in the day?

I doubt it. I've been doing my morning run/walks every day for a year and a half now, and I get plenty of calories - all of them AFTER my workout. I'm pretty sure it's all emotional and has nothing to do with physical hunger. I think my illness and not watching my food for those weeks (not to mention having to skip my workouts all that time, too) just completely messed up my mind.

So I've decided to take things one step at a time, and to give myself a bit of a break during a pretty stressful period as I change jobs and industries. So for the rest of this week, I'm going to worry less about food (while still trying not to go as crazy as I have) and just focus on getting my workouts back on track after my illness. I can crack down on food after I start the new job - when I won't have TIME for nighttime eating.

So the good news is I got in another normal workout. I'm still only running 5 minutes at the beginning, but I added a couple of one-minute intervals later in the workout (at 6 mph), which was nice.

Hey, Rob - I don't think I've actually gotten on here to touch base and let you know I'm happy to hear you're feeling better and getting psyched for the new gig! All good things.

Yeah, being sick, out of commission, and not working out, totally plays a head trip - may even be a bigger hit on the head/psyche than it is on the body! But you'll spring back, just do what you said, don't stress too much, and you'll definitely get better with eating as you exercise more - because you won't want all your exercise to end up being for nothing!

Good luck on this transition back to normalcy...

Ciao, bella!
