Even stopped and started on hills with no problem. I think next weekend I'll be hitting the bigger streets. Or possibly the weekend after. I may want to drive in the Golf more, and not the SUV, especially since now I have plenty of time to practice. A whole year. Sigh.

WOW! you are doing GREAT! Could it have been my immaturity at 16 and not knowing how to drive anyway??? Actually 15 1/2 but hey...i guess i am not realizing how long it's actually been that i have had my license!

I do think it helps that I already know how to drive. And I've been watching people drive stick shifts for (mumble mumble cough) years.

Hey robin,

My first car was a stick. I have not driven a stick in 14 years though.(my hubby does not know how to drive it) from the sounds to me, you got it down. It really is like riding a bike once you learn you never forget.

Thanks, Katie. I do still need to practice more, and get out on bigger streets (and the highway). But I definitely made a good start, and with a whole year to get used to it, now I'm sure I'll do fine when the time comes.

I still may need to drive his truck sooner, depending on when/where he has his surgery. I'm hoping for someplace away from Montana, with no snow.

Anyway, sorry, Chy. I usually look at your journal, but I musta missed it in all the running around this weekend. So here's what I do ...

I keep my feet together and stand as far back as I need to till I can get into basically a normal boy pushup position except with my hands on the edge of the counter instead of the floor. Butt down, back straight, feet together, just my toes on the floor, hands a little wider shoulder-width apart (or maybe a little wider) and pretty much all my body weight on my hands/arms. Then I just lower myself toward the counter by bending at the elbows and push back up, being careful not to slip and bash my face into the counter.

Oh, and last week it was a small SUV type vehicle. This week it was a VW Golf, which is much closer to my Jetta. My cousin Rob's vehicle is an extended-cab truck with a dog trailer attached (kind of the size of a camper shell). At least now I have a whole extra year to practice. Unless I need to drive it when I go help him out with his recuperation, depending on where he has the surgery. I'm voting for Dallas or FW, though. Ha. My house IS actually best suited for something like this, since it's one level.

LOL, no apology needed i know'ya do!!!
thanks so much for those clear'cut directions..NOW i know how to correctly do them:+)..will try after i signoff.

I just remembered something i wanted to tell you..my grandmother taught me how to drive on her car back in the days..i CLEARLY remember sitting in the passenger seat sorta close to her and she did the foot stuff (clutch) while i did the stick thing in each gear (an on the floor stick shift too)..funny huh! BUT that was the verrrrry beginning of me learning how to drive PERIOD!..it just happen to be a manual car..i'll never forget those days...she was a KOOL grammy:+)

OC done gone and gave me a NEW name (suzy q) so i dunno how'da'heck to sign off now..LOL!
maybe Chynna q..LOL!

OK, the second PUSH workout very nearly kicked my a**. I LOVED it, though. It had a lot of the same moves in a different order, plus some different ones thrown in. So this time I did the boy pushups, plus the modified pushup taps, PLUS wall pushups after all those (so when my arms were already pretty tired). And planks again, and side planks. And something called the dolphin, which was killer. It's the one thing I couldn't complete (I did eight instead of 12; something to work toward, I suppose). Even the warm-up was more strenuous than the one on the previous workout.

The dolphin, for anyone interested:

Ok, the wall pushups you mentioned...how do you do them?..could that possibly be at Sparkpeople?..didn't even occur to me. I did the countertop pushups yesterday afternoon and BOY i can really feel'it this morning..did 20.

I'd never been to that sparkpeople site before, Chynna. I just went looking for the dolphin thing because I wanted to know whether it was yoga or pilates, just out of curiosity.

Wall pushups are like the others. Stand facing the wall and put your hands on the wall a little more than shoulder distance apart and a little lower than shoulder height. Stand far enough way so you're standing on your toes with your weight mostly on your arms/hands. Then just do pushups. They're easier than the countertop ones (although not much easier after doing all the regular and modified floor ones, when my arms are already sore).

My friend looked at the dolphin and thought it looked easy. And then tried it and couldn't do one. So I feel better about my eight. So far I'm keeping up with Bob pretty well, so I feel good about that. Still really liking the whole PUSH concept.

Wow. The first time I tried the counter top pushups I could only do 5. I am up to 15 now. I feel so weak. :|

Oh, please, Miss "I climb 15,000 stairs a day and do situps and crunches till the cows come home." You are NOT weak.

But I appreciate everyone making ME feel so macho for my pushups and dolphins and pathetic side planks.

It's true. The first time I tried a boy pushup when you said you did some I did half of one and rolled over on the floor in agony!

You can build up to 'em, though, with the counter pushups. That's what I did. Wall, then counter, then girlie, then regular.

You can still run more/faster than I can. And probably do more stairs, too. (And in a few weeks, you'll probably be doing more pushups than me, too!!)

Last night I had a little peanut butter on toast with a tablespoon of chocolate chips, just to prove to myself that I could do it and stop there. And I did!! I wasn't really even tempted to have more (the thought crossed my mind, but I dismissed it pretty darn quickly without trouble). Yay.

I was up a tad today, but I figure it's just my normal fluctuations, especially after moving up to the new PUSH workout. And having to take Aleve because my hip was KILLING me the last couple of nights.

I doubt it. Though I am getting better. 20 counter push ups so far today in sets of 10, 60 crunches in sets of 20, 40 side crunces, set of 20 each side. 120 stairs. I still have to walk at least 2 miles (pharmacy). Maybe 3 miles but probably just 2.5. I plan on some more stairs today and some more crunches. I really want to eat that peanut butter with chocolate chips but it sounds like it would be too much like Nutella. Ahhhhhhh......
