Thanks, you guys. I needed that!!

So I thought I'd be up today because I lifted weights yesterday (did better than last week; I'm not so sore that I can't move, but my muscles are definitely letting me know they're there). But I'm at 135.0. So down from yesterday, but up from where I was. But this time it's expected, so I'm OK with that.

I also made an appointment with a trainer. My old one was booked up, which was kind of good since I wasn't crazy about her. But the new one has me a little worried. The guy said he's the only one available Saturday, when I wanted to come (early, before Spamalot). He and my old trainer said that this guy is very hard-core and that some people love him, but a lot of people ... don't. They said if I don't like him, I can change the next time. So I'll try it, but I'm a little scared.

Aaaanyway, did my regular cardio this morning, and this afternoon we're doing the longer tape.

Whew!!! I LOVE that tape. Walk With George's Walk and Box. It's 45 minutes and includes some jogging/fake-jump-rope/whatever intervals. I definitely work up a sweat with it (although it helps that we're in the dank basement at work).

Robin - I was going to wait to lose another 10 pounds before starting weights but with everything I am hearing from everybody - I think I am just going to start. Do you find that after doing weights you gain?? I realize that muscle weighs more than fat but that muscle takes up less space - but will it affect my weight loss? I know over the long haul it will help because building muscle keeps your body a fat burning machine. But I would just like to know going into this if you think I will have problems losing.

You can't gain a pound of muscle as easily as people think. But you WILL retain water in your muscles, which will cause some weight gain on the scale. It depends on you, and what you can handle. Lifting will tighten you up and make you look more defined, and it should increase your metabolism so that your body burns more calories (and your body fat decreases).

OTOH, you're not really eating enough calories to build much in the way of muscle right now, from what I've read and what all the bodybuilding stuff I've seen says. So you're not going to be able to lift too heavy. But you can start building a little strength and tightening up some.

134.4, so I'm dropping down again (of course, I'm going out to eat tomorrow, so ...).

Did my morning workout, and we're doing Tae Bo Abs this afternoon. I'll probably skip any abs/butt stuff tonight and just rest up for my training appointment.

Morning Robin! :) I enjoy reading your journal and following along while you do your various workouts along with hearing how it affects your weight. Thank you for sharing the details with us as exercise is something that many of us will be starting soon (hopefully ;) :?)

Thanks, Tawanda. I'm loving the exercise, although I wish I saw its effects more. Although as a friend pointed out yesterday, even if my body's not quite where I want it to be, I'm very healthy and fit and getting stronger and fitter all the time. (Of course, I may change my mind about that when the trainer kicks my butt tomorrow!)

Hopefully, the trainer tomorrow won't be as brutal as other people have said. I hope the workout is tough, but I'm sure that's what you're after anyway. Have a great rest of the day :)

Thanks. I'll try to check in afterward tomorrow, but I might not have time till the evening. Hopefully I'll still have enough muscle control by then to type. Maybe I'll take some Aleve or something before I go to the gym.

I'm looking forward to your update. I think that I will invest in a trainer once I get in the mid 100's.

Be careful. Most of them won't work with you when you're still on the program because of the low calorie count.

Just got invited out to dinner by a friend. I already checked the menu and found something healthy, but I'm sure it will have more sodium than I'm used to. So I'm prepared for the scale tomorrow (and the next few days, since I'm going out to lunch tomorrow when we go to the show).

Nada, Biki. Dallas Guy keeps looking at my profile, and I'm about ready to e-mail him and ask him why. Twit.

Big bounce up today, after going out for Middle Eastern food last night (we were going to have Thai, and I'd planned what to have), but then we started talking and I LOVE Middle Eastern food and hardly ever have it. So what I had wasn't unhealthy, but it also wasn't protein and veggies (OK, it was mostly carbs). So I figure my lunch out today will NOT be a free meal, and hopefully I'll drop back down again quickly.
