Well, pooh. 134.8, which I know is sodium from Chinese food last night (I was 134.8 when I went to bed, and usually I'm about 2 pounds lighter when I get up). I think I'm going to skip my run this morning (which is actually OK, because I ran yesterday and will do my walking tape at work this afternoon; my goal is 20 miles a week, and I'll still be on target to do at least 21 miles).

133.4, even though I had a less-than-perfect lunch (went out with my new boss, and they had nothing that would really work, and I didn't want to spend a lot of time special ordering; anyway, apparently it was OK).

Did the tape yesterday, ran this morning and will do the tape this afternoon, so I'm on target for 20 miles this week. Maybe more, if I use the treadmill at the hotel on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mo has worms. So I need to hurry this morning and take her to the vet before work.

Congrats on being down some today. I'm glad you and several other maintainers have continued to post. It really helps me to see that just reaching my goal isn't the end of this weight battle. I have really began thinking about how this change will have to be for life and not just until goal.

I'm glad things are going better with JDG.

Did you get rid of the squirrels yet?

Hi, Donica. Nope, the squirrels will be there till my roof is replaced. They still haven't even come for the estimate (it was pouring yesterday), so I don't know when that will be. I found out that insurance won't cover it, though. Sigh.

Some good news on the weight front, in addition to finally dropping down some. My jeans fit as well as they did when I was a few pounds lower, and my tops are actually roomier than they were before. So I think all the walking and running has actually added some muscle mass (and this is without going back to lifting, which is kind of cool; I think the lifting was bulking up my arms and shoulders too much, so jackets and tops weren't fitting as well). So I think I'm going to focus on the running and walking for a while longer, keep my food where it is, and drop a few more pounds before I think about lifting again. My body fat appears to be dropping a little, too, according to the Tanita scale.

Thanks, Biki, although there's no "out" for me. It's all on the treadmill. It's easier for me to keep track and know exactly what I'm doing each day (since I'm back on the Body for Life cardio workouts), plus I don't have to worry about weather. And I can hop off on occasion to let the dogs in or out.

The good news is I ate exactly what I'd planned last night for dinner. And it's looking like I might even hit 130 or so before I leave Saturday. Woo hoo!! I don't want to jinx anything, but maybe I can make it to 125 by the time I get back? I don't know, though, given my system. But I'm thinking I might try to continue working out twice a day while I'm gone, and just run in the mornings and do a 2-mile walk in the evenings. "At least 20 miles a week" is my new mantra.

Way to go Robin.............

Can i ask a question? When did you actually start running. Did you wait until you were down to your goal weight. Just thinking for the future for me. And how much did you start off with.

Hi, Katie. I waited to do any exercise till close to the end, because every time I tried to work out before that (even just walking), I would stop losing completely. I started out with a little weightlifting and some workout videos, I think the Walk Away the Pounds ones. Then I moved on to Tae Bo, which I loved. Then alternated tae bo and Slim in 6, which kicked my butt but was a great workout. Then bought the treadmill and started walking on it. Then started the Body for Life plan, which involves intervals. Then got ambitious and decided I could actually RUN some of those intervals.

I just added the second workout a few weeks ago, when I found out some other people from work were meeting in the basement every afternoon to do a Walk Away the Pounds video. We started with the 1-mile three days a week and the 2-mile two days a week, but some of us broke off and decided to do the 2-mile every day. And now we're trying the 3-mile today.

It's very weird how addictive it gets. And I'm so competitive, I've found that I'm constantly competing with mySELF to do a little better every day.

Let me ask you a question. I have lost 3.5 pounds this week so far but that is not a typical week. I have been MFing for 127 days. I walk between a mile and 1.7 miles a day. Do you think I could be sabotaging my weight loss? I realize that is not a lot of exercise but just wanted your feedback. It feels like an addiction for me.

It's hard to say, Biki, and I'm sure no expert. I just know it caused me all kinds of problems. But when I tried to start exercising, I didn't just have slow losses; I would stop losing completely for weeks at a time. I have an extremely slow metabolism, and my body seems to always be a half a step away from the much-talked-about starvation mode. Even now, I'm kind of wondering how long this will last, and whether I'll need to switch back and forth between higher-calorie weeks and lower-calorie weeks to sustain my workouts but also still lose or maintain my weight. (Of course, it could also be that I AM kind of compulsive about it, and even though I'd start with a simple walk or an easy tape, I'd start pushing myself to do more pretty quickly.)

I know what you mean about it being like an addiction, though, or maybe a compulsion. It's why I can only do a modified Medifast plan now; there's no way I'd give up the running at this point. If I miss a morning, I don't feel right all day - even when I take my one day off a week. I just don't have the same energy or anything; even my mood changes.

Have you tried adding an extra shake? Or a little extra protein, maybe? I know there are those who say don't tamper with the program in any way, but some of us have to experiment - in a controlled way - to find what works best for us. I might try even just half a shake or an extra ounce or so of protein to see if it makes a difference.

I wouldn't give up the walking, though.

Thanks. I think I will add a little extra especially those days where I walk over two miles. At my weight, that is a lot of calories burned.

Holy cow. We did the 3-mile tape at work, and it's not just longer, it's a LOT more intense. But I stuck it out and did the whole thing, so I'm proud of myself for that.

132.2. I knew all the workouts would take a toll. I got home last night, made dinner, and was still STARVING afterward. So I had a bunch more protein (lamb chops). So not down as much as I'd hoped today, but still down, at least (and bloated for some reason, so maybe a little more).

Anyway, went to bed late and got up way too tired to run. But I did walk the full 2 miles, at least. Then Mojo came in and got mud all over the couch, because I didn't see that she was completely covered in mud. So I gave her my first solo doggy bath outside, cleaned the couch as best I could as fast as possible, and raced to work. Sigh. Fenced off the room, so hopefully she won't go on the couch while I'm gone. Somehow I suspect she doesn't respect gates and fences all that much, so she might jump over it or knock it down or something. Sheesh.

Doing the 2-mile walk with weights this afternoon. I'm not sure what I'll do about dinner, since I sorta ate tonight's dinner last night. :) Maybe some Egg Beaters, low-fat feta and spinach, like I did Monday night. It's probably better than stopping and picking something up.
