Does gum effect weight loss?

Postby lberger » March 22nd, 2005, 1:22 pm

I have been on the plan for a little over a week. I don't have much to lose but am one of those that always struggles with those 10-15lbs! I lost about 4lbs the first week and now the scale hasn't moved in a few days...great that it hasn't gone up! I really don't fight the hunger pains but am having a problem with sugar free gum. I'm chewing about two (large) packs a day! I am worried that this may be hurting my weight loss...any thoughts?????

I read in the book no more than 3 pieces sugar free gum and extra water if you struggle losing those few pounds to go.........good luck :D

I personally don't recall anything about how much gum, but Whoa... Two PACKS a day!?!?!?!?! That can't be good for you Just think of the chemicals and sweeteners they must contain. Maybe instead try some celery or pickles if you need something to chew.

Yeppers....gum can cause some probs. Especially if it's got sorbitol.

There's one way to find out if it's slowing your weight loss, if you get my drift....:)

Thanks for the quick replies! I have been gum free here at work for two hours...that is huge! Checked packaging and...yes it has sorbitol. Hoping to get under control and start losing the lbs again!

Sorbitol can cause your stomach to growl and feel empty as it activates stomach acid and for some folks, it creates skunky gas.

If people in your office are overcome by fumes, you could be cited for killing them softly by the dreaded S.B.D. toots...
