HI! I am new here - been on Medifast 4 days so certainly not an expert, but what I am an expert on (at least know a bit about it!) is weight loss after pregnancy.
I have had 3 babies in 4 years. My youngest was 1 on April 16th.
We don't plan to have any more kiddos and I am not happy at all with my weight. I have 20 pounds to lose now, but I weighed 172 6 months after my last child was born too.
Yes, your body may still have some hormonal issues. In fact, I had my cholesterol checked when I was 5 months post-partum and it was 229 - doctor said don't worry - hormones! We will check it in a year and if it still high we will be concerned. This is true of lots of things.
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is very common in postpartum women and can affect weight loss.
Breastfeeding can also affect it. I never lost much weight at all until I stopped nursing.
Metabolism slows significantly as you age too, really beginning in your mid 30s, which is a factor for me at least (I am almost 38 )
In other words, there are a lot of things going on which may make it a bit harder to lose too. The most important things are:
1. Pick a diet and stick with it (which you are doing a great job of)
2. Cut yourself some slack - you have a 6 month old! You will find that even a 10 pound loss will make you feel much better about your self, and as you lose that 10 pounds will make even a bigger difference.
3. The old saying of 9 months on, 9 months off is not true for most. My doctor told me a year, but I have never been able to do that either (just got within 10 pounds and got pregnant again!)
Congratulations on your baby and GOOD LUCK!
