Disappointed and Discouraged :(

That's what my Doc has recommended. So far it has worked for me and I am not hungry during the day. On of my other family members is doing a 5+0, just 5 shakes a day. That is just a little to radical for me.

Also, one of the other tools I use for dieting is incentive contests. I have bets out with both my other family member and my closest friend. Both contests end at the end of the year. The one with my friend is based on quarterly weight loss totals and then an overall total on December 31st. This contest is based pound for pound. With the quarterly prize being an 18 hole round of golf, and the Finale, a dinner at a four star restaurant. The other contest is based on percentage of body weight. My opponent in that contest outweighs me by a benjamin so we felt percentage of body weight was fairer. Winner here gets a steak dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House.

This contest aspect of my diet also has motivated me as well as just wanting to be healthy and live longer. If I can win a few rounds of golf and a nice protein enriched dinner at a nice retaurant along the way then excuse the remark but that is just icing on the cake.

Hi

Hi BeachBaby,
I'm so sorry you're feeling so down. I am glad you have a place to come and talk about it.

We're all looking for instant gratification. I know I need an incentive to continue and if you stay compliant to this program, you will lose! I'm one of those people who lost NOTHING my first week. The beginning of day 8, I got on the scale (VERY discouraged, I might add!) and lost 7lbs! My body hangs onto weight until the end of the week.

Stick with it, you're just NOW getting into ketosis. You've gotten some great advice how to tweak what you're doing if you chose to. Give this plan a REAL chance and I do believe you will be thoroughly surprised!

Good luck!

BeachBaby ~ Thanks for posting your feelings. I know you're feeling down, right now, but it is really early in the program and everyone loses at different rates. My doc told me to base my loss on monthly totals. MF users average 2-5 lbs per week, so if you don't lose at least 8 lbs in the first four weeks, THEN there's an issue that may have to be dealt with. Remain compliant and keep reading/posting to the boards. I promise it gets easier and I promise that you'll drop weight.

Sorry that you're feeling down and dissappointed. You are still very early in this program. I know everyone loses differently, but I seem to lose near the end of the week...2+ lbs not a lb here and lb there... sometimes it's 4 lbs overnight. Give yourself a few weeks to see just how this will work before you throw in the towel. I have tried every diet under the sun... this is the only one that let me lose more than 10 lbs. Give it a chance.

Slow loser

Postby butterflygirl » May 8th, 2006, 3:53 pm

Hi Beach Baby,
I am just starting my fifteenth week on MF and have lost a grand total of 28 pounds as of today. At first I too was discouraged to see how quickly others were losing, and I was not. And the first week or so is TOUGH. I was light headed, foggy, and lethargic. By week 3 I had settled into a routine that is still going on, steady but SLOW weight loss. I am losing about 1 and 1/2 pounds a week. But the inches! That's where I am really seeing results. I already knew I was a slow loser. I am not very tall, menopausal, have dieted MANY times before, and my metabolism is just not what it used to me.
Please don't be discouraged. I feel so good on this diet and am now loving the supplements. I was having terrible insomnia, part of menopause, and it is gone. I sleep like a baby now. My hair and skin are better, and my energy is very high.
Hang in there, and soon you will hit your own personal stride. Some of us just lose slower than others, and that's fine!!!
Good luck!

Beachbaby, I would TRULY suggest staying away from the scale. I was SOOO happy that I finally made it to 224.5 (12.5lb loss) on Sunday for roll call. Well wouldn't you know it, this morning, I stepped on the scale ~stupid me :dooh: and I now weigh 226.5. Image

I have been plan compliant so I can only assume that I am retaining water for whatever reason. Needless to say it depressed me a little at first but I just kept telling myself that I know the plan works, I am 12.5 lbs lighter. I say all this to say hang in there!!! Stick to plan and don't step on the scale more than once a week! That way you miss all of the fluctuations!

EDITED 04/10/06 - I stepped on the scale yesterday (the day after the 2lb gain) and whadda ya know the 2lbs was gone! Now I will put the scale away for the rest of the week and see what surprise I have for Sunday!

BB, If I let even the tiniest extra carbs or fat creep in, it will slow or stop me. Watch things like onions and tomatoes. Hamburger is probably not the best choice for your lean meat either. It's higher in fat, even if its lean. I don't know if these things are affecting you but they would sure slow me down. Maybe it would help to review the quick start guide again. Also Success In a Shaker Jar is a great book, with lots of suggestions for just about every circumstance. It should be required reading. Hang in there!

Hi Beach baby. Sorry you had a bad day. I hope tomorrow is much better for you. One thing I might suggest is maybe switching from diet coke to diet rite soda. Diet rite tastes the same as diet coke/pepsi, but zero sodium, calories, its awesome! That sodium can be a real kicker. I know if you are like me, it is hard to give up sodas. But give the diet rite a try, I think you will like it. It has no caffiene either, so if you need that pick-me-up from caffiene, try a cup of coffee. Good luck and just try and hang in there! :D

Don't give up, you'll do fine. If you just can't drink plain water, Lipton makes a cherry flavored green tea that you just dump in your bottle of water, it is sweetened with splenda. It hasn't got quite the punch that CL does but it adds alittle flavor.

good luck

Thank you all for your responses. It has certainly been a difficult week. I am on day 6 now and it is getting a little easier. I struggle a bit sometimes at work, especially when my neighboring co-worker eats buffalo wings and fries at his desk. I have not weighed myself again because it was too upsetting to see what I did.

I did take a lot of your advice. I cut the crystal light down to once a day, and the other 6 glasses are pure water. I also have been trying to not add salt to everything. That is a hard one to master. I have been saving my bar for about 30 minutes before I leave work (at 2:30 PM) so I have 2 things to look forward to- having chocolate and going home! I have also been eating dinner at 5:00 instead of 7:00, so I can have my last shake at 7:30 and not at bedtime. I will try not to eat hamburger meat, but there is just so much chicken and fish I can eat!

I have been able to make my shakes in the kitchen at work, which not many people use. I would hate to have to tell people what I am eating. But I am prepared to say it is Carnation Instant Breakfast.

I weigh in again on Friday. I'll let you all know what happens. Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

Thank you again for all the advice! Im glad to see that you have all been there too.

PS Dede- you are right, I want to diet for a day and lose 10 pounds!!!

I would hate to have to tell people what I am eating.

A few of my coworkers know what I'm doing and are very supportive. My boss gave me, among other treats, a case of water for Admin Professionals' Day. Very clever I thought. We have fun joking about what I shook up for lunch, etc. They suggest all sorts of things to put in the blender and drink, e.g. pizza, cake  Smartypants they are.

Hang in there. I'm having a difficult time myself...especially when that microwave popcorn smell wafts through the office! -- Tara

You sound MUCH better Beachbaby! I'm happy for you! I also hid my program from co-workers for the first couple of weeks because I didn't want to hear about it if I didn't stick to it. After 2 weeks, I told them and everyone was SO supportive! It's a personal choice!

You're doing GREAT! You're so close to being through the hard part! Just keep Bermda in your sites! We'll be here cheering you on!
