Hello, Guest (or are you a regular who forgot to sign in ;) ?)

Anyway...it REALLY helps me stay ON track when I stay OFF the scale! I know that probably sounds really strange to some folks, and that's OK! I just know that I become too easily discouraged if the pounds aren't coming off as fast as I'd like them to...which is YESTERDAY !!!!!

Best of luck to you...I know you can succeed at this!

I'm with Lois on this one. Walking backwards, slowly, slowly, quietly, steadily, back away from the scale. I repeat: back away from the scale. Now, RUN and don't get back on it for a WHILE!

It's sort of giving you misinformation when your body is at a plateau and that fuels doubt. Your body FIGHTS for it's reserves, and mine is loaded for bear! It won't give it up every day, every week. It's a battle. I know this, so I just wait it out and keep up the good and steady fight along the way. What else can you do? Although I'm anxious too to hear of effective ways to mix it up to blast through a plateau - and I'm wondering too if having just shakes is the fastest losing route.

All,

Well, I had an interesting (and negative) response yesterday when I brought this subject up in conversation, particularly with respect to how I might be doing this until November!! Very awful, and I'm almost embarrased to tell you. The person I told said maybe I should take all the money I'd be spending on MF food and invest in a psychiatrist so I could be happy with how I "am" now or any other way instead. :x Now, if that didn't tick me off, as I feel that I'm doing what's right for me already. :twisted: :?: I retorted about the same thing as I just said -- THIS TIME, I'm doing just what I want to, just the way I want to, etc. I am NOT taking advice from someone who thinks I could save the money and just eat an apple and a banana.

DC,

It's interesting - I've found that the closer I get to my goal, the more I'm hearing from people that I look great, I really don't need to lose any more weight, do I, Not more than 10 pounds more, huh? You get the point. I mean people are acting like I'm wasting away or something and that I've become obsessed and am trying to get too thin.

As you can see, I still weigh more than 175 pounds. While I am tall and have always carried my weight well, I still need to lose a MINIMUM of 22 more pounds. I can assure you I will hardly be emaciated at that weight!

I think when you're clearly overweight, people respect the fact that you're trying to do something you obviously need to do. When you get closer to "normal", people seem more threatened. Like, if this person who looks good already needs to lose another X number of pounds, how much do I need to lose?

In any event, it easiest to just ignore them - you're doing something you know is right for you and feeling good about it - who cares what anyone else thinks?

Yes, Sylvia, the reactions of other people are not always what we would like them to be, or even what we would expect are they?

I expect that I will be getting the same thing eventually. Now, I have lost 19 lbs and no one has even noticed. I expect that soon after I have lost enough to notice I will begin to hear similar comments from some. Of course I have always lost from the top down and expect that I will have a thin face long before the bottom follows. I am not publicizing my MF program because I do not wish to invite the unwelcome negativity. I do not wish to add to the temptation to compromise in a weak moment. Only my immediate family know what I am doing at this point.

I have a 29 YO daughter who is about 5'4" or 5'5" and weighs about 130 something. She is always calling herself fat even though she wears sizes 4-9 (depending ya know.)

My sister, on the other hand is always telling her (my daughter) that she is way too thin.....has a chicken neck......looks sick....you know the drill, in spite of the fact that her weight has been relatively stable for years. The interesting thing is that my sister as a teen and very young adult was a 90 something pound Twiggy look alike and loved it. As an adult she mostly maintained just over 100. NOW however she is packing it on.....well for her anyway.......I'm guessin 140 something or MAYBE 150. She now feels very very fat.

We can look in the mirror ourselves and feel hopelessly fat one day and much thinner the next. Have we somehow connected the lables "fat" and "thin" with our feelings of well being and happiness?

Our perception and other's perceptions both of us and themselves seems to be very subjective, arbitrary and changeable.

Good comments and the right thinking processes from one and all.

It IS frustrating when the scale doesn't accurately reflect your commitment and your compliance - just trust the program. It is tried and true.

It is sometimes hard to judge how long the process will take for an individual as God has hand-fashioned each of us differently. Some people on the weight loss phase go for a specific BMI range rather than a specific weight goal. It is sometimes difficult to pre-determine a goal weight - we are all different ages, heights and have different builds. Generally doctors want to see our BMI below 25.

I HATE it when people tell me that I am too thin. (There are some who think I SHOULD lose more weight; others say I look 'about right' and then there are some who say that I am too thin.) I feel that it is really None of their Bee's Wax. To borrow a phrase from Popeye, "I yam what I yam!"

Let 'em go eat dirt - you just do what you KNOW is best for YOU.

Finally, I have found something that helps me to lose weight more quickly than any other plan ever, it makes me feel good; I am healthier than I have ever been and my blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels are perfect. Why screw it up? I CHOOSE to eat and use several Medifast products every single day because they help to stay lean and FABULOUS!

Another thing I hate is when people ask me, "Are you STILL eating THAT (MF) STUFF?"

Well, then I ask them, "Are you STILL drinking a carton of Orange Juice each morning? Are you still skipping breakfast? Are you STILL eating a couple of pizzas a week? Are you STILL eating a greasy gut bomb every day from the Falling Arches? Are you STILL chugging a couple of quarts of beer each weekend and porking out on high fat, high calories foods and swallowing Prilosec? Still watching your waistline and cholesterol levels expand and your arteries shrink and your heart work harder? Well, I am NOT! I am enjoying life to its fullest, am living my life on the edge of all my possibilities and I KNOW that NOTHING tastes as good as thin feels!

So there! :tongue:

I've been dealing with this also--though indirectly--my husband works with several men who are on the Atkins diet and he recently was complaining a lot about sitting there sucking on a shake while others "feasted" on grilled salmon and roasted chicken, etc.
I tried to reassure him. I pointed out his weight loss. Everything--finally I told him he was either going to have to go on the modified or SHADDAP! LOL For the past week, he has been doing the modified and he is a lot happier and easier to live with. He does supplemnts at home, takes a bar to work and a meal--steak or chicken breast grilled with spices and veggies or a salad. I'm glad he was able to make the adjustment, because I don't think I'm READY to go back to cooking full blown meals yet, and if he had decided to go on Atkins and abandon MF, I would have been struggling while preparing his meaty, cheesey, otherwise tempting meals each day.
I'm not wavering. I've tried other things, and MF was the best thing that ever happened to me. I have in-laws visiting the later part of September, and my plan is to do a modified meal once a day when they are here, to accomdate their passion for dining out! LOL other than that, I am ON PLAN. It should not be an issue, as they are sweet and understanding people. besides, my big floppy pants speak for themselves! LOL

Susanna,

I just made it through a house full of visitors and mucho eating out, full fridge, etc.

I ate out with them one meal a day, or we grilled....with lots more visitors. Fortunately my grown son wanted to split meals when we ate out, so it worked out fine. We even had 2 birhdays during that time with cake (i baked and they requested 2 of my favorites) and full feasts..........

The scale didn't drop while they were here, but did within a couple of days after they left. I am too new with MF to judge whether there is a connection, but I have been full MF since Monday when the last visitor left.

Oh the criticism people so readily hand out when they really don't know what MF is all about. :3head: :uhuh:

Reminds me of my Grandmother, and her many wise words. You see, when you get to be an elder, you have license to say things that will put critical people in line again or rather 'help' them with their perspective. She would pull her glasses down her nose, look over the top of them, and say: :exercise:

"Let's just improve OURSELVES today, shall we?"

THAT's what MF is all about! And we're doin' it Gang! Yee-Haw!!!
