Hi Judy - Glad to see you enjoyed the chili last night.
Today is my day 5 and I have had more hunger pains than in past days. So I drank lots more water. I figure I must be drinking at the minimum 2-1/2 gallons per day and even more today. I drink 1 quart between each of my five drinks at a minimum.
I don't like the resistance from others either. Everyone has their own opinions about the fast weight loss and they don't mind sharing them with you. Right? I tell as little as possible about the MF plan to others so I don't have to listen to their "feedback" LOL!
Have a good one!

Other's Reactions

Postby mindovermatter » January 8th, 2005, 6:21 am

I am keeping my plan a secret right now, because I don't want to listen to all the negatives that friends and family have to say about it. My Sweetie knows because he has seen everything delivered to the house and can see that I am no longer shovelling my favorites in. But I've asked that he respect my decision and not dwell on it.

At work, the wellness trainer has taken me under her wing and got me into weight watchers last Feb. She beleives her way is the best but it hasn't worked for me this time. Maybe I'll incorporate some of the WW practices into my maintance plan.

Anyway right now I don't need to waste energy justifing myself, I need to use all my energy to stick to the plan.

mindovermatter -

Every person on every kind of diet thinks their diet is the best. Some people do really well on Atkins. I tried it and had to get off it after 3 days - I couldn't take all that protein and fat. :x But when I hear others on that plan, I don't negate their attempts with my views and I don't like it when others do it to me. MFer's probably get negative feedback from "others" because our diet seems so drastic to them. The funny thing is though is that when they start to notice your weight loss, they become very interested in the plan your on!
Those nay-sayers become belivers! LOL.
People are funny aren't they? Then when you're done with the diet people will be watching you closely at what you eat and if you're gaining the weight back. But I'll be strutting around in my size 8 jeans not CARING what they think!
I've tried ALL the diets out there - most of them more than once. The MF plan is the BEST plan for ME. I tried WW and I can't stand all that measuring and weighing. I know when I reach my goal, I'm going to do what Dr Phil says - Don't buy pants with elastic waists - buy pants and clothing that is fitted. That's what I'm going to do - wear fitted jeans. It may not seem feasible to some people but how my clothing is fitting will partially be my guide to whether I'm eating too much or not.
I already know how to eat right - my prob comes from candy and beer.
When in stabilization I'll eat candy/drink alcohol is very small quantities rarely (if at all).
I'm rambling - I guess I'll get off my soapbox and finish my MF drink.
Take care and good luck to you! :D

I started just telling people I was on a medically supervised plan to eliminate the negative feedback while I was on the weight loss phase. It still seemed though if I went into detail, the minute they heard it was based on shakes, they would automatically declare it dangerous and not wise. Well, now that they see me and how good I feel, they suddenly have more questions about the plan. It is funny how people are because I think we're eating better than we've ever done in our lives, and certainly are on a better track for good health than the nay-sayers. Just wait till you reach goal to see their reactions!

Yeah...you never know how folks will react to MF

Postby Diet Diva » January 10th, 2005, 10:21 pm

Isn't it funny how people react so strongly to issues of diet, food, weight loss programs and such? Let's keep remembering that no matter what the reaction from the 'outside,' we have a solid sounding board here on the Medifast team.

And....keep in the mind, when the day is done you own no one, and I repeat, no one an explanation. The only person you need to be accountable to is yourself. Right now you're doing what's right by YOU, not the rest of the world. Medifast is helping all of us stay focused and live in integrity with our own bodies and well being. Yep, keep it a secret or blast it out to whole wide world....the beauty is that it's your choice.
Rock on!
PS...I am laying low and not "advertising" the Medifast shake thing. By being on the 5 and 1 I can sort of fake everyone out and fly under the radar!

So here's to flying under the radar until we're skinny minnies~
Yours,
Diet Diva

My mantra is my sig down below.

I think what the "know it alls" don't understand is that we have tried thier diet and everyone elses. When someone tells me about the health risk of a particular diet, I simply tell them that should it become detrimental to my health then I will call them for suggestions. Usually works.
Don't be afraid to tell them what your doing to look so great. Perhaps someone who could benefit from MF is listening and you could be helping them out. I say lets advertise and teach and get some of those nay-sayers off our backs! Best of luck to all and I hope your friends and family realize that you are doing something GOOD for YOURSELF and learn to support you.
The one who says it can't be done, isn't watching the ones who are doing it.

You think they don’t know? I know they don’t know. They really don’t know. I did not know anything about eating or losing weight healthily, until I started Medifast.

When someone tells me about the health risk of a particular diet, I simply tell them that should it become detrimental to my health then I will call them for suggestions. Usually works.

I had 2 replies, one for someone that I did not want to alienate, one was to nicely have them list/tell me their exact sources, so I could look it up, to uh, of course benefit me, just in case I was doing something wrong. What? You have no source? Well, let me know when you DO find it, in the mean time, I will continue on my trek.

Second, yours is to simply tell them if needed you will ask for suggestions. I simply told them to mind their own da*n business, and that frankly it is not their business anyway. Additionally I bet most people that have 2 cents to add, are overweight anyway?!?!

Funny thing, once they see the transformation, YOU become the weight loss queen, hey want to know more, how come this is actually working?!?! Well, of course, remember, it was a health risk.

Pound their head in the sand; it’s NONE of their business PERIOD.

You know, it's really interesting. I don't think one person ever said anything about whether what I was doing was healthy or not. Most just had the reaction that they just couldn't do without food so it wouldn't work for them. I frankly would have thought the same thing before getting to the point where I was willing to really make the final commitment to losing weight.

While I had lost weight somewhat successfully on programs like Weight Watchers in the past, I had never done Optifast or any of the more limiting or extreme weight loss programs out there. With the exception of doing Slimfast for a day or so, before MF I had always tried to lose weight by eating less, more healthy food. This was obviously not a successful strategy but I was convinced that I couldn't do a program like this - heck, I was convinced I couldn't even follow a low carb program!

When I reached the point of no return and decided MF was the program for me, it was like a light switched on. I became focused and determined to do this. And what I had viewed as the hardest program became the easiest. After a while, most of the time, I stopped thinking about food. It was fuel, not enjoyment. I could have fun without eating.

Maintenance is a whole lot harder than being on the program was, but in a way, it is easier than eating properly ever was before. While I still like to eat, realizing I can live happily without it has helped put it into proper perspective. I still enjoy things, but truly, for the first time, do so in moderation and choose between things rather than having them all. I might have a bad day or even a bad few days, but I nip it in the bud. I don't let it turn into a bad week or month. I don't let a 2 pound gain turn to 5 and then 10...

But I digress... not only is the program healthy, it is completely doable if you are willing to make a complete commitment to it. As Mike says, once you start losing weight EVERYONE will want all of the details on what you are doing.

AHHHHHHHHHH… a true statement, from one that has seen the light. I would not call it a bad day - as Nancy says, and this is TRUE, you have these days why? Because you can. Because you chose to have the “other thing(s)” Things that got us where we WERE in the first place. Difference is NOW we are fully aware of how we got to where we are, where we came from, and where we are going. We know when to say when, and SO WILL YOU.

Like Sylvia, I also chose (actually plan in advance) these days (parties, vacations, travel), and instantly turn back. There is nothing wrong with a 2-pound gain, because truly they are not 2-pound gains, they are fluctuations that leave quickly as you remain conscious. In the past, we did not monitor the scale like we do now. We knew without a doubt what we were doing was wrong, but – BUT we did not care, or care enough to do something about it. Now, we are there, we care, it is different to be thinner (it’s a dang lot of fun), and really know the ins and outs of maintenance.

Maintenance is a whole lot harder than being on the program was

Well girl, it is about a year and a week (or so) of maintenance, and it is still hard to be on maintenance.

I have two choices, suffer with maintenance (yeah like this is really suffering) or go back to being fat. Your choice, you know mine, and I know yours!!

Great post.

I'm laughing!

Postby Joan Roman » January 11th, 2005, 7:15 pm

I had to laugh about the posts on the negative MF comments. Not because I think it is funny to receive or make comments like that...but because I guess it happens a lot...I see it was silly to think I was alone in getting that response! I am a teacher... and let me tell you...we can be a bossy lot! I really had to deal with a lot of comments about how unhealthy this program MUST be. Of course...I may have had to make a few smart remarks saying, HMMM...REALLY, AND WHEN DID YOU GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL? The PROGRESS has pretty much stopped any negative commentary! I just think it is kind of strange how people feel so free to comment on another persons diet. Like everybody you know is a health expert!
