Crystal Light/fat grams

Postby Taszi17 » March 26th, 2006, 6:02 pm

Hey guys still waiting on my brand new life to start heheh when I get my order in. I did go to the store today and stock up on chicken and steaks and salads. I also got those mini crystal light packets to put in my water because from what I gather it is really important to drink all of your 64oz. Is it okay to use the crystal light or is that a big no no? Also I spoke to my mom about it and she said to make sure that I am getting at least 20 grams of fat a day (not too sure how much is in my 5 meals) or else I could do real damage to my gallbladder. Does anyone know how many fat grams are in my 5 meals?

Taszil--It is perfectly ok to use Crystal Light but 64oz of you water should be unaltered water. I spoke with Nancy not long ago and she mentioned that the program is set up so that people do not have gall bladder issues.

I am not sure this helps but I hope it does

Taszi17 ... It is very possible that you might not get 20 grams of fat but that's okay b/c the human body only needs about 1-2 TBSP per day. The fat breakdown is like this:

MF 55 Shake: 0-1 grams
MF RTD Shakes: 1-1.5 grams
Bars: 3-4 grams
Creamy Soups: 0.5 - 1.5 grams
Oatmeal: 1.5 grams
Cold Drinks: none
Pudding: 0.5 - 1 grams
Soups/Hot Drinks: 0.5 - 1 grams
Fast Soups: none

Depending on what your choices are for the day, you could actually consume no fat at all or quite a bit more depending on your L/G, snack, salad dressing etc. Your main concern is really keeping good quality protein and low carbs. This plan is extensively tested and nutritionally balanced. Just make certain that you get at least your five MF and your L/G and your body will have adequate vitamins/minerals and enough fuel to utilize.

I'm sure someone will come by and correct me if I'm wrong - I'm certainly not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV - but I think gall bladder problems are usually associated with too MUCH fat, not too little.

lolol you guys are crazy. But to make you laugh even harder my mom is a nurse hehheh. But that doesn't mean I know squat ya know. I don't know if it is too much fat or too little fat or what. I see people on here that have been doing this for a while and I haven't seen one post about problems with the gallbladder so I am not sure. I guess I will have to see how it goes WHENEVER IT GETS HERE lol.

No doctor here, but my hubby the Science Department Chair says that, indeed, you can damage your gall bladder by not having ANY fat. Use it or lose it, just like everything else.

This is a well researched program, though, and everything's balanced. The following is from the official medifast website and medifastdiet dot com:

"Does the program affect my gallbladder?
As reported in clinical studies no case of gallbladder problems were noted. Most people do fine and especially on the 5 & 1 program when fat intake is higher. People that are obese, females, over forty years of age, and have had children have a higher incidence of gallstones. If you are in this group we always recommend that you use the 5 & 1 program to increase your fat intake. On the complete program your fat intake [is] low and may result in you[r] gallbladder creating sludge from inactivity. The additional fat ingestion at least in theory should help the gallbladder remain more active. If you have a history of gallbladder disease or think you are having any further questions it is critical that you talk to your doctor before starting our program."

I may be wrong, but I don't think we are supposed to count Crystal Light as part of our water intake. It's ok to drink it, but I don't think it counts toward the 64oz. we're supposed to drink.

If I'm wrong, please let me know.

From the Medifast website:

Because Medifast is a healthy diet, you eat every 2-3 hours, which results in you never getting hungry or lacking energy. The convenient prepackaged meals of Medifast's low calorie diet allow you to be successful with quick weight loss. Drink a minimum of 64 oz. of non-caloric fluids daily, preferable water.

That means it does count, but they prefer we drink mostly water. :)

Just a little FYI yes you can drink non caloric drinks however the reason it is recommended that you drink AT LEAST 64oz UNALTERED water is because plain water goes right through you with nothing to process however when there are other things added to the water (ie..crystal light) the body has to process the ingredients that are in the Crystal Light so it is not going right through you thus flushing out fat cells as well as the water.

I also found this on the internet: The sweet taste of aspartame, saccharin, and acesulfame-K has been reported to increase ratings of hunger and, after saccharin consumption, to increase food intake.

Hope this helps
