Am I crazy?

Postby chanceaway » April 15th, 2006, 7:39 pm

I have been realizing that I think about food all day long. No matter what I am doing even using the bathroom  I still think about food. I feel like a drug addict that is wanting a fix. Is food compulsion like that too? I have been on the program a little over a week and I am losing weight and feeling great. So why cant I get food off of my mind? I feel like I am crazy or something. Have any of you faced this? If so when will I stop constantly thinking about food?

I didn't have that problem after the first few days, except once in a while if I smell something cooking hehe.

Sounds like you do have a food addiction, but you know what? You are doing GREAT and you will get over it, just give it time. :)

I went through the same thing for about a month. It does get easier and the thoughts get fewer and farther between so just hang in there!

I am not sure yet if they ever go away totally but trust me you are not crazy and it does get better!

OK, I still think about it quite a lot, too. But not in the same way anymore, I think. I don't think about what I'm going to eat or what I want but can't have or any of that.

I've always loved to cook and to eat out and try new foods, so ever since I moved here (seven or eight months now), I've been looking at restaurant menus just to see what they have. I do it a LOT, so I don't know if it ever really goes away for some of us. Most of the time, though, I mostly focus on seeing what they have that I can eat, rather than whether they have my favorite things that I DON'T eat anymore. Sometimes I get ideas for cooking a new L&G or sometimes I make a mental note that it's a good restaurant to visit since I can eat there and stay on program.

Food will probably always be an interest of mine, and I really have no problem with that. I'm just more interested in HEALTHY food now. It's kind of like the whole celebrating with food thing. People for centuries have celebrated with food, and I don't see anything wrong with continuing to do that. I'm just trying to celebrate in healthier ways, either by celebrating an occasion by eating something special but good for me, or by learning to have that little indulgence on occasion - but making it ONLY on occasion and then going right back to normal (healthy) eating.

So that's a long way of saying I think that thinking about food can be OK, unless the thoughts are mostly what you wish you could have but can't or what you're going to have when you're "done" or whatever.

Hmmmm,
Thinking about food all the time. I've even read posts where people are dreaming of forbidden foody things. Well, do you remember back when you were a child and a parent or an authority figure told you you couldn't do something or have something??? And once told it made the forbidden item all that more attractive?? Well I think when we first change our eating habits it's a lot the same. We think of all the things we "can't have" and that's just what we want. It's kind of a small rebellion that we carry out in our minds but hopefully we won't carry it out in reality. It does get better when we become more rational -- at first we're running on emotion. Just see it for what it is and continue on -- you'll make it. The foody thoughts will creep back in at times but you'll be able to handle them much much better. :D You know most of us love fooooood!!! We most likely wouldn't be here if we didn't.
