Confused...

Postby malcmg » June 11th, 2005, 6:30 pm

I'm excited to start medifast, but I have a question. The 5 and 1 is that you only have 5 shakes a day and 1 lean & green. Or can you have shakes and oatmeal (soup, etc..) and a lean and green. Or can you mix and match everything, shakes, bars, soup... I'm confused about what I am suppposed to do.

Thanks,
Melissa

You may have five medifast meal replacements a day plus your lean and green, except that of those five, only ONE can be a bar. The rest can be shakes, or oatmeal, or pudding, or chili, or soup, or chai latte, or whatever. Exception: the "fast soups" (Robust tomato and savory beef) and the crackers are snacks, not meal replacements. You may have up to two of the fast soups and one package of the crackers per day as a snack IN ADDITION TO your five meal replacements.

Good luck to you!

Confused

Hi Melissa,
"24" has it exactly right!! In addition on the first 3 days you may add an additional shake if you're really hungry :x A much better choice than anything else. I'd suggest that you check out "lean Cuisine" on the forum-- it will give you lots of ideas how to add variety (legal oatmeal cookies, oatmeal pancakes etc) You are beginning an exciting journey. We'll all be looking forward to hearing how you're doing :D :D

I thought that in addition to the "rules" that 24KaretGold posted above, we're supposed to have three cold shakes per day... Is this not correct?

Victoria, until recently the protocol was for three shakes a day minimum. Within the last couple of months, however, it was changed to allow any combination of products, subject to the one bar a day limitation. If you want to have five oatmeals a day (and there are some days I have three!), that's cool.

The shakes are a good source of soy protein, though, and if you are looking for your 24 or so grams of soy a day, then I understand the recommendation is to indeed remain with having three shakes a day.

Oh yeah! I *must* have my oatmeal in the morning! Even before I started MF-ing, my daily breakfast was always oatmeal made with soy milk and fresh orange juice. Now it's MF oatmeal and orange crystal lite.

And if you haven't browsed the Lean Cuisine section yet, do be sure to do so. There's a recipe there for legal oatmeal cookies -- yummy! And it makes your oatmeal portable, too.

And don't forget that for those "hanging on by your fingernails" moments ;) you're allowed to have 2 pickles a day and 2 cups of bouillon. Celery also (not sure how much 2 or 3 stalks?)
