As for stress -
YES it most certainly can and will hinder weight loss. Being stressed involves more than just your mind, other body functions are affected also and they use energy. If your body feels like it needs energy to control the stress it will hold on to its stores. Try to find healthy ways to relieve the stress; yoga, hot bubble baths, punching a pillow etc. You will be using the energy, but releasing the tension.
I recently had a talk with my 16 (going on 30) year old about how sometimes her actions and word really affect my well-being. I know your son is younger, but maybe a good heart to heart will get to the bottom of his issues. If it doesn't you can at least rest in the knowledge that you tried to help him with whatever he is dealing with - you know that it isn't you right????
ANYWAY --- I am happy to see you join the 20 pound club, but this doesn't mean you are gonna win.
