Cinnamon, diabetes and weight loss.

Postby Sasa » June 6th, 2006, 11:14 am

Just wondering if anyone else (maybe I've missed it elsewhere on this forum) has heard about the use of cinnamon to control diabetes? I've seen some articles about scientific research that's found an element in cinnamon that has a dramatic effect on insulin resistence in mice, not tested in humans yet. The suggestion I've seen is that people with Type II diabetes eat a teaspoon of plain old cinnamon every day (mix it into other foods or put it in gelatin capsules). There are also claims that addressing the insulin resistence issue helps with weight loss.

Yep, those studies have been around awhile. I think we've even talked about it some on here. A lot of us add cinnamon to our oatmeal every day. They also sell cinnamon capsules.

My father is an insulin dependent diabetic and my mother is a diet controlled diabetic. They both use the daily teaspoon of cinnamon and swear by it. They put it in their cereal, etc. My father even spinkles it on his eggs. My father says its has lowered his blood sugar.
