Chili (maybe soup) thickener

Postby bk » January 22nd, 2005, 11:18 pm

Just wanted to share a little tip - file' powder is good for thickening up the chili. Just shake a little on, and your chili becomes nice and thick (not like sludge, but has a thicker texture).

I came across my file' when doctoring up my chili, thought I'd give it a try, and it was great.

For those of you that haven't used file', be careful not to heat it up again - it will get stringy. It also adds a nice touch of flavor.

It may also be good in other soups. If I try it, I'll let you know. Trying to concentrate on the warm things since it is currently snowing inside my apartment! [The blizzard winds are so strong the snow is being forced inside my old crappy windows]
