Hi Charity! :D

I can't speak as to your weight and what you need or do not need to lose, but I can tell you that with careful transition and a lifestyle change, quitting Medifast does not result in regaining everything you have lost. There are plenty of people around here who can illustrate that. As far as it "not teaching you how to eat"...that to me is false. When I quit MF for financial reasons I continued to lose weight and it was largely due to what I had learned while on the program - several small meals a day with emphasis on protein intake, low calorie/carb/sugar, and lots of water. Even when I wasn't on MF, my success was because of MF. As someone formerly 271lbs who would binge eat on a daily basis, it is a huge deal to relearn how to eat and be healthy and it wasn't something I could have done on my own.

Just my two cents. :D

Yes, get a second opinion. You can even get one from Dr. Andersen himself if you can get on the Wednesday night Take Shape for Life Doctor's call (or Dr. Pecarero, aka Dr. Joe). Dr. Andersen created the Take Shape for Life program which has revolutionized Medifast. It sounds like she doesn't understand the program at all and is relying on decades old knowledge. Take Shape for Life, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medifast and the PROGRAM part (not just the product), is based on creating lifelong optimal health for every shape, size and age, not just helping those of us who are/were morbidly obese lose weight. The meal replacements are our tools to assist us in creating the changes Cydj describes.

If you treat it like a diet, your chances of sustained success are the same as any other diet -- 15% at best. Nancy is but one representative (and my favorite shining one) of the SUCCESS of this program.

As for the headaches, I know for myself, stress, changes in routine and fueling my body with less than high-grade stuff result in pain and yuckiness. Creating balance, sticking with healthy food (including Medifast meal replacements), getting enough sleep, even massages and "me" time all help me.

If you have a Health Advisor/Health Coach, contact him/her for information you can take to your doctor (including research abstracts). Bottom line, you know your body best. Take care of YOU! If you decide to continue not using the Medifast meal replacements, look for foods that are similar in content and nutrients to what you were consuming before. Eat every three hours, drink plenty of water, get some sort of movement in, stay in contact with folks who will encourage you and hold you accountable -- all that stuff still applies, and will continue to apply for the rest of your life if your goal is a long and healthy journey to the very end.

Best of everything in the nursing program. May all your midterms and finals be easy ones!
Here's to our mutual success! :buddies: --Diana

Aloha,

Thanks to both of you for your advice.

Right now I am doing a modified MF because of what my doctor said and because finals are next week.

I am drinking the shakes and eating the bars and having the lean and green but the difference is that I work out almost everyday and eat some kind of carbs after the workout, like fruit or wheat bread in a veggie sandwhich.

My sister just moved in with her boyfriend about 4 months ago and she has packed on at least 50lbs since! She had dropped the weight fast before by going to the gym and just watching her intake with no particular diet plan and she is not into MF. She's really sensitive and complains to me that she gets so hurt whem people mention her weight so I decided to be sneaky and just ask her to work out with me everyday as a way to motivate me to get in shape (she used to be a personal trainer). So, I have to work out hard almost everyday to help my sister so, no induction period and strait medifast for me for now. I do love the feeling after a workout hard too.

I am on day 4 of this new plan and I am 4lbs down so.....it'll do for now.

I have been back on the program for a week and am down 5lbs. I am on such a role!

I had the vainest motivation. There is a classmate of mine that is the same mix as I and we look like we could be siblings (as in he could be my very very very younger bro hehehe). During our lunch breaks he eats really healthy and he surfs and rides bike almost everyday and I eat crap. I look bloated and "ehhhh" and he is sooooooooo friggin handsome. It just clicked last week. I said to myself, screw eating yummy food....I wanna the fun of feeling great about myself so much more that the fun of eating yummy yummy food!

Everytime I feel tempted I just say, "Nah, forget yummy food , Im gettin' sexay!"

I feel admitting that the food is infact yummy and still not worth it is helping me.

I get more and more excited everyday. My muffin top is so much smaller and I can feel space between my pant and thighs now--all in just one week! I am heading strait for my goals and I dance in the mirror everyday at my success:mrgreen:

Its a great motivation.... but is junk food really that yummy? I mean, hey, there are lots of healthy things you can have that are WAY yummy. Just keep those things in mind and you will get there.
Then you can have some of those "yummy" foods once in a while while you maintain. ;)

BTW... where is Steph?

Have a great Sunday.

Congratulations on your re-start and your weight loss! Awesome, girl!

I can agree with you on the yummy food thing, because for the past 8 months I've been eating all of the ono foods without any thought or care, and I was lovin' it until I couldn't fit into my pants and I started avoiding looking at my scary self in the mirror. The yummy foods weren't so great after all!

Keep up the great work Charity! Great to have you here!

Healthy can be yummy but boy oh boy not as yummy as KFC and Starbucks apple fritters!

Regardless, feeling great about myself is better than apple fritters!

Steph is struggling with the restart. I sent her a care package with all the supplies she needs but it's still hard, as you know.

I wish we lived near eachother so we could support one another better! :boohoo:

I was eating the yummy food but I cared! I felt guilty and bad about myself everyday! I got on that scale every morning no matter how bad I was and everytime I hit 165 I mentally slapped myself around and eased up on the nonsense eating but never started eating right.

I am glad I had enough control to only gain back less than 10lbs (it was my huge huge fear of returning to my starting point more so than control).

Aaaaahhhhh, I am so glad I am past that ugly ugly point of guilty uncontrolled eating!

Thanks for stopping by! :stroll:

Aloha,

Just thought I would stop by on a lazy Saturday afternoon for an update. Usually people stop by and report a gain but for some reason I am 20lbs down from my last post! Yippee! I didn't think it was that long ago! I am now 145 and holding. I am a size 7/8 but I am only 5 foot 2 so that's still chubby. My goal is to lose 20lb more and be 125 which is a healthy BMI. I have been 145 for 6months or so now so it's been a tough goal.

I love what MF has done to me. I made lifestyle changes. It's not just a diet. My mind is changed for good. What I considered pigging out before MF and after MF is so different. That is why I can forget dieting for months and stay at 145. Thank goodness for MF!

I was MF perfect yesterday and I hope to be today. It's about time I get to a healthy BMI don'tcha think?

Aloha!
