Hi ya, Lar ~

Nope, no need to count anything other than the number of Medifast packets you eat, measure the cooked weight of the protein and measure the amount of veggies you consume. That is the beauty of the program - no points, no calculators, no calorie and carb books to haul around.

Just select which five Medifast meals you're gonna have, rip off the top of the packet, add water and shake or nuke and enjoy!

Be sure to monitor your glucose readings with every packet each day.
Keep close tabs with your Health Advisor and your health care professional so you can adjust your meds properly.
Most diabetics cut their meds in half on day one of the program to prevent crashing.

Drink plenty of water and if you were not exercising prior to beginning the program, hold off until you've completed the third week, then gradually add exercise.

Glad to have you along with us on the journey, Lar.

Medifast is a great plan for diabetics as you have already seen. Congrats on your progress. Since starting MF I have been taken off Actos and my blood sugars are normal. My diabetes is in total remission. Most days when the scale isn't moving I can remind myself that this is for my health too.

im still confused

i always was told that when counting carbs you look at the label at the carbs and subtract the amount of dietary fiber to get you true carb count. is that right?

Thanks again

Thats correct Larry. What the above gals were saying is that we don't really count carbs on this program (mostly). Obviously, for diabetics on the program, you need to be careful with some carbs, but the focus should not really be on carbs. This kinda goes against the whole thing I told you about in the meatless options things... why would they delineate differences by carb values right?
Anyhow..... when calculating the barbs that your body uses, you do subtract the dietary fiber from the total carb value for digestible carbs. Also, for diabetic insulin issues, sugar alcohols are subtracted when figuring NET carbs for glucose spike readings, but those sugar alcohols are digested and used (just very slowly), so you still count them for calorie value.

Pre WLS 460
Low after WLS 300
Start of MF 350
Previous MF low 280
Restart MF 330
