Can you really eat one MF bar a day and lose consistently?

Postby Lisa in NY » August 13th, 2005, 5:49 pm

Just wondering....since these MF bars taste sooooo good, is it really possible to lose weight eating one of these every day ? :)

Went to a picnic today and resisted ALOT of temptation - I have to say that knowing I had a bar to look forward to really helped!

I am enjoying this Medifast stuff !

I think a lot of people eat the bars everyday. I found early on that I could not do that. I had been on a low carb diet previous to MF and my body thought low carb was normal (according to my dr). I don't have the bars as often as probably most people do just because I don't want the extra carbs to slow me down. If I do have one, its usually my breakfast. They are great though for times when you are out and about and cannot get to a shake.

Hope this helps!

I eat one bar every day, and I've lost over 80 pounds since the first of the year (with a "week off" here and there, maybe three times). So yes, it can be done.

Yep...you were who I had in mind when I replied earlier! I knew it could be done with success and you are a SHINING example...I love the bars because they are easy BUT I have noticed if I have one everyday I slow down on the weight loss. Its not so bad now, in the beginning I was coming off of counting carbs so I think thats why I had the problems. Since I have regulated to the MF way of life I don't notice the bars affecting me one way or the other. I usually just have one every other day...

Yep.

Most people have one bar a day and consistently lose weight.

It is best to NOT have a bar for breakfast due to the higher carb count and sugars, it is a bit of a jolt to your blood sugar to hit it with a bar first thing in the morning after having an empty stoach over night - it is best to have oatmeal or a shake for brekkie and the bar in the afternoon.

Bars can be life savers at times, can't they? For some people, they do best having a bar just once in a while. Just do not eat an entire box in one day...

Thanks all - I have no problem controlling the bars to one per day, so I will continue to enjoy them!

bars and oatmeal

Postby oregonrose » August 16th, 2005, 6:42 pm

I have one bar a day-- They are so good I also try to have an oatmeal-- usually at night when I want to eat something real. I had to laugh at myself-- I dont usually like oatmeal-- so I was outting cold water in it and eating it cold. kind of like wallpaper paste. I finally tried it last night hot and WOW its good! (duh) by the way-- do you add hot water or put in cold and put in microwave or what? nancy

Hi ya, Nance ~

Well, you are a first! Eating cold oatmeal, huh?

Haven't tried it myself but maybe I will...and then again, Naw!

To prepare the oatmeal I put 8 ounces of cold water into my jar, add a packet of Medifast Oatmeal (My fave flave is French Vaniller Berry) and stir.

Lick the spoon while the oatmeal takes a one minute ride in the nuclear box.

Stir (and lick the spoon) while the shaker jar of Oatmeal takes another one minute ride in the box.

Stir, let it rest for a minute or two so the berries can get :weightlift: pumped up a bit and :eat:

If I am eating Apple Cinny Oatmeal, I follow the same routine above but I add 1 packet of Splenda and a hefty dash of cimmamum and a teensy snort of cloves. Stir it up and let it rest for a couple of minutes so the apples plump. Enjoy!

If I am so inclined, I add part of a packet of Sugar Free Apple Cider mix to the water when I make the Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal for an absolutely  divine bowl of Medigrub!

Hope ya like it hot, Nance!

Nancy, is that SF Apple Cider mix a powder or liquid and can I find it in a regular supermarket? I have 2 whole boxes of the apple-cin oatmeal and I want to spiff it up so I can get it down.

Thanks.

I love the apple cin/oatmeal. 2 pacs of splenda, some cinnamon and a squirt of non fat, whipped cream...no carbs in the whipped cream, 15 calories...its my dessert..and it is soooooo good.

I dunno if you are flab-free because you were bar-free, DeeCee but I'd take it! I think the 10# is a nice loss.

It's unlikely the bars would make a major difference. As people get closer to their goal weight and have less flab to be burned up, then the bars might make a difference.

re: Apple Cider Mix

The Alpine Cider Mix (Sugar Free Apple Cider) is a powdered mix. It comes in individual packets. I buy it at the Safeway grocery store and got it last fall. I haven't seen any for a while but it will most likely be back on the shelves soon. It has 15 calories in a packet - I use just part of the packet mix by sprinkling some of the dry powder into the MF Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal.
(Alpine is made by Krusteaz/Continental )

I belive that Swiss Miss makes a Sugar Free cider mix also.

I bought some Boyd's brand SF Apple Cranberry Cider mix a few years ago and had some left over packets - Ooh, I like it very much!

Those bars are a lifeline! I never had a problem losing when I was on 1 bar a day. I had lost 30 pounds in exactly 8 weeks and I always had 1 each day, just not my first or last meal of the day.

bar

Postby oregonrose » August 24th, 2005, 12:04 pm

I tend to have my bar at my "wiching hour" 4pm every day. That is the time I will blow it and head for the peanut butter or something. they have really helped. hang in there!
