A Healthy Perspective!

I guess I had never thought about the scale in that way, kassilou. Maybe the answer to my phobia about ups and downs is to face them without fear. I will give that some thought and maybe that should be my personal challenge!

My husband, Joe, came downstairs yesterday with two twenty-pound weights for me to hold just to get an idea of what I no longer am carrying around with each and every step. Wow! Multiply that 2 times and that would be the additional amount that I need to lose. Phew! I'm looking forward to feeling SO GOOD!

Today I will: Exercise :exercise: Drink at least 64 oz. of water :cheers: Get a good night's sleep: :snooze: Give away hugs: :hug: Motivate myself with positive input: :headphones2: and pray when I'm tempted: :help: :cheermed:

I'm usually right there with saying "STAY OFF THE SCALE," because I think it prolongs the agony, and if one isn't ready to accept the day to day fluctuations with a shrug and nothing more, it can be devestating. If I am on program 100 days and weigh every day, that's 100 events to keep track of, and too many opportunities to get discouraged because "it isn't moving fast enough" or "it went up even though I was compliant!"

On the other hand, weighing just once a week in that 100 days would mean something like 15 events, and most of those are going to show a loss if one remains compliant. One or two might show a plateau, but it's unlikely to happen two weigh-ins in a row. I just think it's less likely to drive one "cwazy." Being at maintenance is different, I agree, because then you want to monitor every day to catch any problems before they become a problem.

That said, I admit that right now, at 201, I'm jumping on the scale every other day, anticipating ONEderland. At the beginning of the program I did it once a week; now that I have some understanding of fluctuations, and absolute confidence that THIS PROGRAM DOES WORK, I can handle the fluctuations a little better. I still won't weigh every day, though.

I think I'll try to stay off until Sunday, just for solidarity's sake. ;)
