I Can See 50, I just can't get there!

Postby LuzInIt » June 10th, 2005, 1:54 pm

Plateau time :? . I'm sorta doing fine, but patience is wearing a little thin. This is day 11 of bouncing around the same 1.8 pounds. I was speeding toward the 50 pound club with 4.4 pounds to go on May 31st, anticipating my arrival there within a week or two, based on my MF history... and after up/down, up/down, I've just barely budged :( . Totally compliant - drinking min 100 oz water a day, too. Just so you all know, I'm not discouraged, just impatient. I thought I'd post my experience for anyone else experiencing (or about to experience) a big slowdown - you are not alone. I will post a huge YEE HAW when my time on this flat land is over  .

Hey Linda,

I have been tossing back and forth 1.5 pounds myself. I am that far away from the 60 pound club....so I know exactly how you feel.

Just keep on keepin on, and pray we both see new clubs at roll call!!!

hang in there

Linda,
Plateau's strike us all and they truly do (let me say this eloquently)
STINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have seen a few on my way to over 100 pounds lost and am going through a small one myself right now.
One thing I KNOW for sure is that I will lose pounds or inches before too long (you are taking measurements aren't you?) Then when the scale doesn't move down but the tape measure does you can FEEL GREAT!!
You have a good attitude about this and it will happen for you!
Hang tough and try to stay off the scale for a day or so, then weigh again.

Hi All - I've been wanting to respond and thank you for your encouragement but was waiting for something good to report. Unfortunately, I am now at day 14 of my STINKIN' PLATEAU, and patience is really wearing thin. I was able to report a 2 pound loss on Sunday Roll Call, then Monday came and up it went again - 1.2 pounds. Then Tuesday came, and up it went again - .2 pounds. Since 5/31, when I began officially tracking this nasty phenomenon, I have managed a net loss of 1.6 pounds. Prior to these two weeks I was averaging a loss of nearly 5 pounds a week. I'm still 100% compliant & still drinking all my water. If you've noticed my stats, I'm among the group needing to lose the most. I've come to grips with this, but it makes it very hard to be facing a slowdown so early in my MF adventure. I knew it would come; just wasn't expecting it so soon. So there's my gripe for today. Mentally, still strong - just really ticked :x .

Dear Ticked Mrs. T ~

Oh, yeah! I hate it, too. Usually hits about the 40-50 pound range...let's see here if we can budge the bulge a bit.

For breakfast tomorrow - one day only - drink a double shake and then just your usual every three hour routine. Eat NO bars for a few days.

Bars can slow some folks down. Eliminate the bar totally from your meal program for a week or two and replace it with a shake.

One way to eat a bar as part of the 5 and 1 Program is to cut it into small pieces and eat them dispersed throughout the day. Try to plan your other 4 Medimeals evenly spaced and use the bar over the course of the day.

Go back to doing the things you did in the very beginning - weigh the meat and measure the veggies.

Compare your measurements as Shrinking Mary suggested.

I have spent a long time in the waiting room myself the last month trying to dump three measly pounds...3 POUNDS! They are happily gone but they made me wild. Keep at it.

Hey Nancy - Glad to hear you're three thinner - I was routing for you to have them gone by conference! Guess what - I rarely eat the bars. I think I've had 3 in the past 12 weeks. I only use them for an emergency meal (if I'm totally unable to get to the other stuff - like in the middle of a Sunday morning service when the sermon goes too long ;) ). Also, I'm about 50/50 on the complete program. Usually eat 3 to 4 lean/green meals a week. But I thank you for the tips - I know this won't last forever. Just one of those days when I needed to vent!

Mrs T ~
like in the middle of a Sunday morning service when the sermon goes too long

 Hmmm...it must have been one of Terry and my sermons you sat through, eh? Even I have a bite of a Medifast bar occasionally on Sunday mornings...

Thank you for rejoicing with me over my 3 pound flabber - oh, they were donkey-hearted pounds, too. No one would know they were there, but I did and I didn't want them to move in and get comfy livin' there.

We don't always understand why some pounds linger longer than others. We just know we need to stand firm, trust the program to work, wait for our body to begin releasing weight again. Sometimes the poundage stall is because of our own doing - we super-size the Lean and Green portions, or we skip meals, don't get enough rest, or too much exercise, or because we cheat, or it's that old visitor Aunt Flo. My experience is that once the body is through being stubborn, the weight loss phase picks up again and we're off on a losing streak again.

Hang tough - we don't have to like it (the plateau) but we dare not take out our frustration in the form of  grubbage grabbage! We can be more stubborn than the flabber, right?

HALLELUJAH! YEE HAW! YIPPEE! WA HOO!

HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN! THE SKIES ABOVE ARE CLEAR AGAIN!

-50

Today (day 15 of my days of discontent), I officially claim my plateau broken!

Thank you all for kind words of encouragement and support. What a life saver to have this place to come to and blast off a bit. And also to shout our successes, no matter how huge or tiny, knowing we understand each other in a way others, although well-intentioned and compassionate, cannot.

"I plucked all my eyebrows out, then snipped my nails" says our Nancy.

Well, Mrs P., I certainly hope that pierced pinky of yours survived.

Speaking of which, I was tempted to report finding a pierced and polished nail in my chili  , but then thought better of it. Figured for sure I'd end up in the pokey!

I'm Giving the Scale Too Much Power!

Postby LessOfMe » June 15th, 2005, 6:44 am

Hello,

It's me...Karen. I finally got to the -40# yesterday, but got on the scale this morning and was up 1.5 lbs. I say this to remind ALL OF US (and that includes me, BIG TIME) that we should really try hard not to weigh ourselves too often. It has become a little "ritual" for me to get up, run to the bathroom, make sure I've got as little on as possible and then carefully place the scale in the SAME spot. I get on very carefully and watch the digital numbers go up, up, up until they finally stop. It is like a "game show" ... only I'm the audience and the contestant. Not a good thing! I'm the biggest offender, but I want to commit to NOT WEIGHING MYSELF until next Sunday. Anyone like me and interested in accepting the challenge?

Mrs. T ~

Oh wow! :yay: I am happy for YOU! I am :bounce: jumping :bouncie: up and down here - perhaps I caused that Tsunami warning from all my jumping, eh?

The left pinky nail is STILL intact so that was NOT my finger in the chili - What a hoot! :roflmao: I snorted about that one and awakened my :snooze: slumbering husband!

Karen ~

I loved you description of the Scale game show contestant...I am :redhead: guilty of the same thing - the same attire and routine - it truly can make you :nana: cwazy! For YEARS I never weighed and ever since July 15th, 2002, I do it daily. I am able to successfully detach myself enough to not allow it to determine my attitude for the day but ...my own cwaziness occurs...you have a GREAT Plan! I :x hate your sale for doing that tease

Woo hoo, Linda!!! I've had two plateaus like that, so I know how good you are feeling now! That is great!!!! It feels so darn good to see those numbers start moving down again.

Sorry, Karen, that is one challenge I cannot do! My first thought each morning when I wake up is about what the scale will show. I usually check my rings before I get up to kind of give myself a clue before weighing, but up or down I'm okay because I expect fluctuations now.

On my first plateau, I was ready to throw the scale out the window. But I didn't even get really upset with my last plateau because I knew my body was readjusting. My mom is doing this diet, too, and I really noticed a big change in her one week...she hadn't lost that week, but had kind of "pulled in", IYKWIM. I figure that is what I am doing when the scale is not moving.
