Can we have cornstarch?

Postby Lulie » April 28th, 2006, 11:42 am

Hi

Just wondering if we can have a little cornstarch. The recipe I want to use requires 1/2 of an 1/8 of an tsp. Just a teeny bit.

TIA

Looking it up, its about 488 calories in a cup, 108 cal in an ounce. 1 ounce is 26 g carb. Based on that, I will leave the decision up to you, but its carb city... lol. 1/16 of a teaspoon is probably very few carbs, so its probably okay.

1/16 of a teaspoon

Postby Mike » April 28th, 2006, 12:36 pm

In doing a little math, with 488 calories in a cup, I found that 1/2 of 1/8 of a teaspoon, being 1/16 of a teaspoon factors out to be abou 1/2 of one calorie, and about 0.1 g carb. I say go for it.

Just my personal opionion, but I see so many things people want to add to this plan. All are JUST a few calories here and there, BUT we are on a very calorie restricted plan here and it is SO EASY to add a little here and a little there and before you know it, for some mysterious reason, we hit a stall. I implore you to keep it simple and keep it strict. The extra snacks aren't supposed to be an everyday crutch, but something you MAY add when you are having a rough day. Again, JUST my thoughts. Hugs to all and please don't think I'm being judgemental. Just trying to help.

Corn starch isn't a snack lol.. it's to thicken a sauce. ;) Trust me, it would taste NASTY by itself.

LOL. Yes, Tonia, I'm aware of what cornstarch is. My response was a general one to ANY additions.

I doubt that 1/2 of 1/8th of a teaspoon of corn starch would have any effect on any recipe. I'd skip it. JMHO

Thanks so much everyone. I am such a dunce. I meant 1/2 of an 1/8 c. I ended up just using about 1tsp and only ate 1/2 the first time and will finish tomorrow. It is to thicken a dressing I make that is made with splenda, water and spices. It was great on chicken salad.

I guess we will see when I weigh in! Of course it is that time of month too. I am dreading the ole weigh in this week!
