To be completely honest, even though TonyR eats the brownies from the recipe in Falisamarie's thread (referenced above), I wasn't AT ALL impressed enough to commit almost 2 day's worth of packets to it. There are just too many other yummy things to choose from that don't take the resources NOR the work. (If, however, they're your thing, no offense intended.)

So, I went to bed pondering it and woke up this morning determined. We're hitting the road in the McClelland Party Van in some hours for a 2-week road trip, and I thought some brownies along for the ride might be nice. (There are just so many RTDs a girl can have in a row! We have other things with us, but RTDs will be our staple.)

So here's what's in the oven at the moment (with fingers crossed!):

1 pkt oatmeal (I used Apple Cinnamon; I think next time I'll use the Maple and Brown Sugar one)
1 pkt scrambled eggs (these weren't available when the first recipe came out)
2 pkts choco puddin
1 1/2 c water
2 pkts Splenda
1/4 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
1/2 t vanilla

(What I didn't have and REALLY think it needs is 1 T cocoa powder)

I didn't use any oil -- I didn't think they needed it. However, I'm not a chef, never even took Home Ec, so if someone corrects this, no offense taken.

They're in an 8x8 pan, sprayed with non-stick stuff and in the oven at 350. I forgot to set a timer, but I'm checking the center with a toothpick. So far, I don't think 15 minutes is nearly long enough.

1/4 of a pan is a Medimeal. This batch, then, makes 4 meals (note the 4 packets used in the recipe...).

When we have an opportunity on the road, we'll post our impressions.

HAHA Diana - you sound like me! But I commend you and trying to create a new recipe - I'm not that brave!! Let me know how it comes out.

Ooh, I hate the chocolate puddings so maybe I can put them to use if this recipe works out for ya! Please keep us updated. :)

Mike posting... very late tonight. We tried them on the road and they were definitely yummy. We will do this again... and again, no oil needed, just non-stick spray in the pan.

Well, I attempted to make this... I used 1 1/4 cup of water because it seemed so thin and I added 1 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder. I used the maple & brown sugar oatmeal. It turned out like... chocolate egg pudding. It was gross, had to throw it out. :( Oh well, I guess I'll have to use the chocolate puddings I have left as shakes and force them down.

Hi,
Try flavoring the chocolate pudding with some extract... orange, coconut etc and freezing the pudding. Just be very careful if you decide to use peppermint ... it's strong.. I posted some time ago about my "drain cleaner" .... peppermint extract and chocolate shake ... The frozen pudding makes kind of a sorbet.

Or try mixing them with raspberry Crystal Light instead of the water. Covers up that "off" taste it has.

Sorry, Pashta! :cry: I'll admit, they're not as good as the pancakes JonnaD cooked up. . . but the brownies are definitely on the menu here at the McClelland Lookout. (Again, not every day like TonyR, but doable!)

Mike and I were at the store today and I picked up a box of cocoa powder to read the nutritional value --- :shock: :shock: :shock:

A whopping 15 calories in a tablespoon and a third of that from fat!!

So, skip the cocoa powder, folks! Perhaps some extracts like Jan said. Or maybe some SF Davinci or Torrani. I'll have to try the Crystal Light thing, Robin! Mike doesn't like his chocolate fruity flavored, but I'm certainly not opposed to it.

I'm wondering if maybe it's because my baking powder is too old or something. It can't be more than a year old though, does it go bad that quickly? :?:

We've tweaked this recipe a bit recently. When making the brownies we (the royal we since Di is the one who typically makes them) divide the batter into 4 servings and place them in 1 1/2 C glass bowls (small pyrex bowlss is what we have) sprayed with non-stick spray. Then cover each bowl with foil to keep the heat from making that ucky skin on the top while it cooks.

We also recently bough some flax seen powder which in my view helps the recipe.

Anyhow, I really enjoy these brownies. Great for on the go.

I found a recipe for brownies on another site, it sounds REALLY good and it's simple with very few ingredients and I'm going to try it as soon as I get all the supplies (I just need some syrups). I thought it might be an easy alternative (no baking) for those who haven't liked the other recipes so far. (Not trying to step on anyone's toes.)

It's posted on a copyrighted site though so I don't think I can post the recipe here, but can I post a link to the recipe on that site? Would that be legal? Mods help me out here..

oh, that looks yummy. btw, I made the banana muffins last night and they were great. I accidently left out the splenda and they were still good.
