Bouillon Confused

Postby Kido » February 17th, 2006, 4:51 pm

In the quick start book it says under Drink Lots of Fluids,
"In addition, you may drink any non-caloric beverage including ....... then says instand broth or bouillon.

I understand that to say you can have as much as you want. However, when searching here, it says 2 cups per day.

Postby Ginabobina1969 » February 17th, 2006, 7:36 pm

I really dont think I could stomach anymore then 2 cups of that a day...

the Jello, on the otherhand..I could eat a LOT of..lol

also, am confused if those two things are separate from the "other" legal snacks.. eg. pickles, celery, fastsoup or mf crackers.

Maybe someone will enlighten both of us and set us straight..lol

Your doing great!!!
Hugs,
Gina

Snacks

Postby Jan » February 17th, 2006, 9:32 pm

You may have one non MF snack per day. These things include dill pickles (2) or celery (3 stalks). Plus, you may have one MF snack per day --- fast soup or crackers. You are allowed 2 bouillon cubes each day. You may use them in your soups or as a drink. If I have this wrong I know Nancy will jump in and straighten this out. But I think that's the way it is. :D

In the first days of the program most of us are :bib: hungry,

:felix: worried about being hungry,

:hmmm: thinking about food more than ever before;

:yawn: not waiting in line at the take out counter or spending much time in restaurants or grocery store lines,

:whattha: viewing television food commercials & drooling,

we find that since it is so :burnout: speedy and easy to prepare a Medifast meal replacement packet that we have a lot of extra time on our hands and the potential to feel hungry as opposed to actually experiencing true hunger seems greater than we can bear :whip:

I say, if it is a matter of choosing :scratch: between draining a few extra mugs of bouillon :huh: or eating a pizza, go for the bouillon! :thumbsup:

Generally a cup of bouillon has about 5 calories and zero or trace amts of carbs.

Unless your doctor has advised you to restrict your sodium levels, the most damage you'll do by having three or four cups of bouillon is to retain fluid due to the higher sodium and delay a few ounces from dropping off until the next day or so. (Diet pop also contains some sodium and can affect fluid balances as well as giving us a caffeine buzz if we go with several colas a day.)

It is best to stay with a couple cups but if needed, a cup or two more will not jeopardize the fat-burning state.

During the weight loss phase we are learning to distance ourselves from food, to make a separation from eating for emotional needs or recreation and eating for fuel (physical needs) needs.

During my weight loss journey I acted as if I was in :weightlift: training for my upcoming ‘living life event’ and I knew that if I were to truly maintain my weight for the rest of my life that there would have to be some periods of time during the day and especially at night ( :x Grrr….THAT is so hard, isn’t it?) when I would not be eating anything at all that I tried very diligently to discipline myself to have my packet and nothing else except water or tea/coffee between meals. I viewed my packet as my :redprowl: fuel packet for the next three hours.

If I felt hunger, I did :x not allow myself to eat until at least an hour and a half had passed since my last fueling; I drank some water, distracted myself in some way – walked around the halls, read an article in my Reader’s Digest and waited 15 minutes.

If I still felt hungry, I had a cup of herbal tea and made a phone call, etc. waited for 15 minutes more.

Then if hunger persisted, I had a cup of Fast Soup – so much more flavorful than blah salty bouillon according to my tastebuds; besides, it has teensy bits of onion, garlic, celery & :yes: Yes, Folks – scrapings of carrots! (Yup, thar’s carrot bits in the Savory Beef Fast Soup!) and those itsy bitsies really make having ‘bouillon’ so worth it!

Now remember, the Fast Soups have 20 - 30 calories per packet and 4 carbs –

Delicate Chix has 20 cals & 5 carbs;

Savory Beef has 25 cals & 4 carbs

& my personal FAVE, Robust Tuhmater has 30 cals and 7 carbs :x Dang!)

That’s precisely why Medifast suggests just uno packet of Fast Soup or uno packet of Medifast Crackers:

Garden Vege have 60 cals, 2 g Protein/ 12 carbs/ 0 fats;

the MultiGrains have 50 cals, 1 g Protein/ 12 carbs/ 0 fats

Carbs do count. Fats count and contribute to the overall calories.

This is not a no carb plan; it is a precise balance of protein and carbs and fats.

We focus on low glycemic carbs that do not rapidly raise our blood sugar and also do not rapidly drop our blood glucose.

Thank you for the replies.

The first two nights, I didn't feel like I had gotten enough at my lean and green, so I made a cup of bouillon. I think I had another cup later on those nights. Boy could I taste the salt in it. But I wasn't not worried about the sodium it it, because I drink more than my share of water every day. Even before I started this program.

I was just confused because I used the bouillon making sure I didn't consume more than 2 cups and when I read the book, it made me believe you could you it any time you wanted.

In between meals on the first two days when I got hungry, I would make sure I would drink more water. During the work day, it wasn't that hard to occupy myeslf.

Thanks again for the help.

Kido - I know what you mean about doing fine during the day - usually people can get so occupied with the activities that they forget about eating (not good - we ought not to ever skip a packet) and once the sun goes down, the Hungries come out!

Looks like you are doing very well! :lol:
