Boots

Postby Serendipity » October 20th, 2006, 4:50 am

Nova's NSV post has reminded me that I have a problem that I need some advise on.

The pressure to buy tall boots is overwhelming me. Every fashion catalogue I have has them plastered everywhere. You don't see a skirt with "normal" shoes, they are all paired with tall boots.

Now, I know you girls in Texas and surrounding areas think that tall boots are just the thing, but up here in the north east, it's just starting to catch on and I truly feel awkward trying them on. And they feel funny!

I don't want to be a cowgirl, but I want to be hip and in the know when it comes to fashion.

Also.....I'm 50. At what age do tall boots not work? I don't want to look like a teenager.

This tall boot thing is really keeping me up nights.....not really.

You look great Jo! You should get them. There is no age limit. I have two bosses - one is short and stout and one is tall and has legs for days. Both will hit 50 in two years and the taller one has some really nice tall boots. Suede, nubuck, leather, she has them all. The shorter one lives in her Timberland workboots.

I think its not a function of age but personality. You have to FEEL your tall boots. So if you are feeling em, give it shot and post pics for us to see. :D

The only boots I have are my ridin' boots and going out boots, they both say HArley Davidson and they are not tall. I have wondered though :)

Jo, you will look great in them. I also understand as I tend to dress on the conservative side. I would buy them but stick to plain leather in black and/or chocolate color and not too high of a heel. Leave out the buckles, straps, two tone etc. you'll be fine. Check out the boots on avenue dot com and you'll see what I mean. I was just looking at them yesterday.

Jo, I think you will love them once you get used to them. I agree, try an un-embellished pair first. Start out by wearing them under pants until you get used to the feel and then experiment with skirts, dresses, and maybe even those cute wide leg crop pants. I think as long as you think "classic" and go with plainer styles you will look age appropropriate. Check out that show "what not to wear" for great ideas! They always show boots. Now don't buy white patent leather platforms to wear with white go-go shorts 'ya hear?? :) Have FUN!

I admit, I love my cowboy boots. But I don't wear the other kind. I don't wear skirts. Or cropped pants or leggings or any of that. And I refuse to tuck my jeans into my boots. (Then again, I pretty much only wear sneakers or cowboy boots. And jeans. Every single day. I wear skirts on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur and I MIGHT consider one for my cousin's bat mitzvah. Maybe. But other than those, I think the only other time I'd consider a dress would be for my own wedding. Which ... yeah, not really a big concern at this point.)

Don't get me started on fashion. I hate the new skinny-leg jeans. Give me boot-cut or give me death!!

Robin, I'm with you on that, Like I said I onlt wear my ridin boots, I had surgery last march and once my foot healed, thats all I wear. They are the only footwear that don't hurt my feet. Give me a pair of bootcut jeans like you said and a t-shirt and my good ole boots and I am a happy girl :)
