Boca Burgers

Postby Ct. Yankee » April 19th, 2006, 5:28 pm

Hi! Can anyone tell me why Boca Burgers are limited to one, as a protein substitute, when we can have 7oz portions of chicken and fish, and 5oz of beef, etc.? It cannot go by weight, as a cooked Boca Burger weighs only 2.5 oz. Thanks, I am just curious to know the answer. Originally cooked two, but I only had one burger for dinner, while reading the MF Quick Start guide. I knew Boca's were allowed, but was surprised that the limit was one. The other burger went to Casey, my dog, who must have thought he died and went to Doggy Heaven!!! :D

I don't know, but I'm guessing it has to do with the carb content. 4 grams per burger, where chicken or beef has none.

It's a brand of soy burger.

I see. I am not really familiar with that type of stuff. My husband works in the cattle (dairy) industry, my father raises beef and pork and I guess I am what is called "corn fed and corn bred". I don't know if I would be brave enough to try one. Maybe...

They're not bad. I don't like Gardenburgers, but Boca Burgers are much closer to the real thing. I have lots of vegetarians in my family.

I found Boca Burger scrambles the other day at the store. One box has three individual plastic bags. I think it would make a good taco salad etc.

Probably the fat and carb content

Postby Mike » April 27th, 2006, 11:48 am

I looked up the nutrition info. Each patty is 71g, with 5g fat and 9g carb (4 fiber which is taken out) leaving 5g net carbs. Ultimately, its not lean. 5g fat works out to about 14% fat, and the same for the net carbs.
You want lean meats, which are under 10%, preferably under 7% fat.
Just trying to be helpful, hope I was.

Thanks for looking up the Boca burger, Mrmmac.

One burger is allowed per the Quick Start booklet. Although, there are better 'meat' choices, a Boca Burger, once in awhile, for variety, is a nice change. I enjoy the burger with a salad, and it makes a quick and easy and a light L&G meal. Most of the time, I eat all different kinds of fish and shellfish, which I grill on the George Foreman. Thanks again for your input. :D
