Birthday Help - Please!

Postby Triskets » January 9th, 2005, 7:24 pm

Hi all - Happy slurping to you!

Thursday, the 13th is my birthday. In years past when I've started a diet after the New Year and before my BD, I go off the diet on my BD never to return again.
I'm going to be different this year and stay on the PLAN!
I've been trying to think of fun things to do instead of eating and drinking.
I'm going to schedule a massage - something I have not had for years and it's something I will look forward to.

Do you have any other non-food/drinking ideas for me to do?

All help will be appreciated.

Gonna stay on PLAN and GET IT DONE!
Trish

Hi Triskets,

A massage sounds awesome. Maybe you can also go to the movies, or if the popcorn smell gets to you maybe you can rent a bunch of movies you have been wanting to see. Take a mini vacation. My family and I go up to the hotsprings every year and you can relax in the soothing water and get a massage, facial, mudbath, manicure and pedicure man the list goes on and it's all in one place. I don't know if you have something like that by where you live but I am sure there are other things. Maybe go skiing with some friends it's good exercise and lots of fun. That's just a couple ideas I hope something sounds good.

Happy Birthday

Nikki

Hello

Hello Triscuits,

How about going bowling? It might sound silly, but my husband and I went bowling today and it was a blast. I am a crummy bowler, but it was sooooo fun and cheap. And you know, you will be so busy lugging around a dirty bowling ball you won't have time (or clean enough hands!) to eat anything.
And our bowling alley is so cheesy and outdated that we spent the whole time laughing about how we could spruce it up a bit, and bring it out of the 1970's decor. Yeah, you might give it a try.
Oh...and there's always dancing, music, or theater?

Good luck. Keep us posted.
Yours,
Diet Diva

Join a gym or do charity work. Sounds corny for a B'day, but charity work really makes you smile and helps share the feeling of the day! :D

And congrats on sticking to the plan.

Oh and I always recommend donating blood on your B'day. It's the easiest day of the year to remember when you last gave!

Hey Triskets! Half the battle is recognizing that this is always a "quit" time for you. ANd your right, this time IS gonna be different. I'm probably not the best one to talk right now, coming off of a month long vacation/Christmas binge, but for me the birthday thing is different. The holdiays were hard to resist 'cause they last a long period and 'cause everyone is in that "celebrate, eat eat eat," phase. For me the birthday is easier 'cause I think of it as 1 day, and not one that others are equally caught up in the food thing. But I know it's different for everyone. Try to look at it like this... Your birthday comes every year, and next year you can make food a part of it in reasonable ways. But this year if you fall of that 1 day it's really taking away about a week of your progress. And then you'd have to restart and go through those first 3 days again! :( NO-ONE want to go through those days again!

I say this 'cause I'm faced with the "restart" right now, and would save you from it! Everyone had great ideas, keep busy, do enjoyable things. I know for me enjoyment always meant incorporating food somehow, but it doesn't have to be that way, and shouldn't be that way huh?! The massage sounds great. Be sure to guzzle that water big time, 'cause any of those stubborn toxins that are still around will be released from the massage and your muscles will stiffen if you don't hydrate. Since you've already started with the massage, why not make it a day of pampering for yourself. A day of improvement. Give yourself or go get a manicure/pedicure. Do a facial steam (Dump a handful of rosemary into a boiling pan of water. Let it seap for 10 minutes then sit face over it covered with a towel to keep steam in. The rosemary is a great astringent.) Focus on YOU, pamper yourself!

Sorry for the long answer, guess I'm chatty today!

I would also vote for a spa day or half day - massage, facial, manicure, pedicure and then maybe some shopping! You won't even miss the food at all.

Oh, and one note on a previous post since Nancy is in Vegas, I believe. While Blood donation is very important, one can not donate blood while on the weight loss plan.

Have a great B-day, however you decide to spend it!

NikkiNix, Diet Diva, Izabelle, fedup, Sylvia -

Thank you SO MUCH for your great ideas and inspirational words.

I wanted to go to the movies but don't want to smell the popcorn so I think renting some "girlie love story" movies is a good idea.

I like the bowling idea also since that is something we never do.
I don't want to spend a lot of money even though a spa day sounds heavenly. 8)

I've had so many "start-overs" on MF, I have no intention of going there agin. :x

Love and thanks to you ladies! and Happy slurping! :D

Al of the above sound MAHvelous!

I have always wanted to go to this place where you paint your own pottery. There's Build-a-bear if you like stuffed animals. See some male strippers, get a tattoo (real or henna), if it's warm where you are - putt putt golf. Uh, paint ball, art museum, belly dancing lessons, one of those places at the mall that doll you up and take your picture...

I'm out of ideas.

Triskets,

Gosh, if only I could explain how absolutely fabulous you feel at goal, you would do everything not to cheat to get to goal as quickly as possible. It's such a wonderful wonderful feeling to feel great and look good! Give yourself that gift on your birthday by not going off plan please? You're gonna be so grateful for all that discipline once you can wear whatever you want to wear, and the compliments and second looks you get are so plentiful and genuine! Keep in mind Nancy's wise and very true mantra,

"NOTHING tastes as good as thin feels!"

Hi Girls!

As it turns out, tomorrow my hubby and his friend Jim are heading up to Canada for 3 days to ski. He will be gone over my BD (I told him I was ok with that cause I am). Jim's wife Patty who is a good friend of mine is going to come over and stay with me (that's why I don't mind his being gone on my BD). We're going to go out and do girlie stuff. I will also have my scheduled massage on Thursday. Today we went to a beautiful nursery/gift shop and my hubby bought me a table top music box in the shape of a grand piano and some glass ornaments (for the Xmas tree). I got some really cool stuff. AND, everything was 50% off! Can't bet that.
Patty knows how important this diet is to me so I have no worry about staying on plan Thursday.

Thanks to all of you for your help!
