Thanks, Century!

Had a really wonderfulholiday weekend. Went with DH and good friend Melissa to Krause Springs, a wonderful bit of property just 30 min. out in the country from our house. They have a natural spring that flows first into a man-made pool, then waterfalls over a cliff to a natural pond below. There are little caves to explore under the waterfall, and a great rope swing, and the truly brave like to jump off the cliff into the pond. We had a great time grilling, playing games, floating in the water and even took a coupla tries on the rope swing (yes, the 8 year old put us oldies to shame with mid-air backflips).

I did splurge on one hot dog - no bun, just a little mustard. It felt like my patriotic duty! :D Other than that, stayed the course and did just fine. I made Melissa and DH split up junk food that was left over (lemon bars, chips, dips, etc) and take them to work with them to get them outta the house. Had to get rid of any grazing temptation!

Paid for the Friday off by working a 24 hr shift Saturday. It's 06:05 Sunday morning. 55 minutes to bedtime! WooHoo! I think when I get up later, I'm gonna try a pilates routine. I've heard it does a great job of strenghtening core muscles. I've also read several articles lately about flattening the belly that recommend doing the hula hoop to beat stubborn belly fat and work the ab muscles. I haven't tried a hula hoop in years! I'll have to see if my nephews have one. :D

Good morning! That sounds like a wonderful outing, and excellent choice on splitting up the leftovers!

My sister swears by pilates. I bought a dvd set at Costco, but they're intimidatingly hard. She said I need to find a reformer class. . . still haven't done so.

If you've got a Wii at home, consider getting the Wii Fit component. It's great -- tracks your BMI, your center of balance, how long you do which type of exercise, all kinds of stuff. AND one of the games is a hula-hoop game!

Can't wait to hear about your pilates experience. Maybe I shouldn't be so intimidated. :D

I just can't seem to get into any kind of DVD exercise routine, I wish I could since I have a few here.

Great job dealing with the picnic stuff. I don't think a hot dog is all that bad. Really, it could have been way worse right?

Thanks for the advice on my thread. I think I'll go with a compromise and weigh every two days.

We have a Wii too and its a lot of fun. I don't use it so much for the fitness activities, though ocassionally I'll play the balance games or do the hula-hoop. Mostly I just use it for the scale and go the gym for exercise. Considering that a high end scale costs about the same as the wii fit does, and that the wii fit is so much more than a high end scale, its a pretty good investment. I like it a lot (though my little siblings definately use it more)

Yay, it's Friday! I'm SO ready for the weekend!

DH picked up a Wii yesterday! We couldn't find a WiiFit, apparently all of Austin is sold out. There's a GameStop close to work, though, and they said they should get a shipment in next week, so I'll check back. So far we've had fun bowling and playing PacMan (yes, I'm so game illiterate I can only play games from the 80's. Anything after that decade just baffles me).

Today he tried to go get an iPhone. He got to the store around 8am, and at 11 they ran out - the girl IN FRONT of him got the last one! Poor guy. It sounds like the first run of the phones might be duds, though. Lotsa folks are having problems with them. Hopefully when his gets in (2 weeks) they'll have the kinks worked out.

I met with Allie (personal trainer) and the gym yesterday. She made a whole new agonizing routine for me. I told her in the beginning that one of the areas I really wanted to work on were my arms. She took it to heart! I think my bat wings are going to defect and leave any day now, just to get a break! It's amazing how many different ways they can disguise lunges. They have a way of cropping up in one form or another in every routine.

Actually, I have to admit I've been pleasantly surprised at what I've found myself able to do. I really didn't think I'd be ready for a new routine by now, but had the old one down! I honestly didn't think I'd made any progress, but I think the exercise might actually be doing something!

My weight has finally started to drop, too. When I started exercising I gained 3 lbs, and now I'm back down 3. Even though I know the gain was due to the changes in my activity level, it's still nice to see the scales start dropping again, albeit much more slowly than before. My % body fat went down 2%, but then back up 1% - ? I think I still have a lot to learn about losing body fat.

Have a great weekend, ya'll!

YAY!!! :cheer: When I've got a moment, I'll send you our Wii's address.

We had to order the WiiFit from ?amazon? ?toysrus? can't remember. It'll track your BMI as well as your weight, and you can log in how much of which kind of exercise you do.

Did you get the Sport pack? With that and an extra remote, you and DH can play together -- tennis, boxing, all kinds of things. Then, there's the nunchuck, too. Need that for boxing. . . (Di starts making a shopping list for BIT)

I love my iPhone -- I doubt I'll go through the expense and trouble of getting a new one. This one does what I want it to.

Wow, with all this personal training going on, I'm starting to get a little excited at the prospect myself!

Hey Tex - I know you were starting to question your decision to continue exercise when you saw the stall in weight loss. I am so glad you chose to continue. The thing with the program is that even when there is a stall or even a slight gain now and then - if you stay compliant and muddle through it, there is no way that you can fail. The program works - period. Good for you staying true to what you knew was right for your body. Exercise is a healthy choice, we all know that! Your body just had to get used to all the changes.

Thanks, Rodeo! I'm getting more comfortable with losing weight at a slower pace. I've found clothes are fitting better, so it's ok if the scales don't show it as fast as they were. Adding exercise to the schedule has kept me so busy, I hardly have time to think about it!

I'll ask DH to pick up the sport package, Diana! I was thinking about ordering the Fit. That'd probably be easier than running around town looking for it. We made little WiiMe's already! :D

The weekend flew by! Friday evening we met with friends at the SaltLick, a wonderful BBQ place outside of town in the middle of nowhere. I had a salad, and I also had some BBQ without sauce. It was so wonderful, but it made me sick! Went right through me. Blech. Not worth it. I think it was too fatty/greasy.

Worked Friday night, got groceries Saturday when I got off work. DH went to work, and I packed up the car then slept. When DH got home, we met up with friends in New Braunfels and camped out for the night. We have this wonderful new tent that has netting across the top. It was so fun to lie on the mattress and be able to look up into the sky all night! I LOVE camping! The next morning, we all tubed down the Guadalupe. Had the best time!

Got home Sunday evening to find my old kitty, John Doe, was acting funny. We rushed her to the vet and found she had a stroke. She's been with me 17 years - the longest relationship in my life other than with my folks and brothers! I was so heartbroken to see her not feeling well, but she wasn't in any pain, and there wasn't anything the vet could do, so we brought her home and gave her lots of attention and love all night. This morning, she's right as rain!! No stumbling, and she's eating and drinking just fine! I know I'll miss her so much when she's gone, but I know she's had a wonderful, happy kitty life. She's been spoiled to the max, and I know she's had a good ride. I'm so glad my girl's hanging around a little longer.
