I am a believer!!! Taste does change!

Postby FORMOMMY » March 14th, 2006, 8:51 am

I did all I could to choke down the oatmeal in the first 2 weeks. :aarggh: I decided I wasn't going to eat it and therefore would not buy any more. But I had 1 box left from the variety pak that I purchased when I started. Oh well....I decided to save it JUST IN CASE I ran out of stuff. So I tucked it back in the closet and didn't think about it again.

Well, I have a supply in my desk at work of packets for my daily meals. What do I find in my desk but a little ol' packet of Apple Cinnamon oatmeal. :puke: But then I remembered what I keep reading "your taste changes". :hmmm: So I decided to try it again after not eating it for 4 weeks. I made it with the Splenda and cinnamon and a little more water so it wasn't so thick.

Ready for this........................I actually enjoyed it!!!!!!!! What's up with that??? Then I laughed out loud - which thankfully no one else heard and said to myself - I guess your taste DOES change!!!!

Moral of the story: don't give up on any of the meals until you've tried them again. Then if you still can't handle them - swap 'em!!! :-P

Michelle-

I was exactly the same way about the chili. Now it is one of my most favorite things.

It's so bizarre, isn't it? I've been that way with the oatmeals, the puddings and some of the bars. Not to mention loving green beans more than I ever thought possible.

I know what you mean Robin - it is like you are tasting some foods for the first time - not just the MF meals.

I have a question though - how do you measure your green beans? I like the fresh ones that are nice and long but if I try to measure them, I have to break them to fit into the measuring cup. Just wondering how you do it?

I've had that problem, too, so I just kind of guess at this point. Probably not the best method, but I don't go hog-wild with 'em, and I figure if I eat 10 too many or too few, it's not going to kill me. I sure didn't get fat eating green beans!

No kidding!! Asparagus!! I now love asparagus and I have been replacing my usual iceberg mix lettuce salad with fresh baby spinach, yummy and Im sure much more nutritional value than the iceberg. I still haven't perfected the chili yet, I'll keep working on it and maybe it will become one of my favorites. I didn't care for the Vanilla, orange or strawberry shake at first. The Vanilla I now love for the versatility and what kinda flavor you can make with the syrups... Im still iffy on the orange will have to try it again in a few days. Keep up the good work, shake it to the left, shake it to the right, do the hippie shake shake with all of your might...

They sure do change!!! I HATED vanilla shakes...now I like them... Oatmeal made me gag, now I enjoy it. LOL! It's weird huh?

What's nice about this plan is I don't like fruit...so this is working so well for me. LOL! Give me broccolli and I'm set.

Is it the texture or the actual taste you guys didn't care for at first?
I'm a texture girl and I'm a little worried. But I'll overcome it no matter what it takes.

With the oatmeal it was the taste and texture - I think it is getting used to the soy. I like regular oatmeal so I couldn't understand why I wanted to gag on the oatmeal. But when I made it the other day and put the splenda in it with the cinnamon (which is how I made it before) I liked it - I used a tad more water to make it thinner and added a tsp of half and half to it. I don't put that in my coffee so I figured I could use a little in my oatmeal. I really liked it!

I haven't had a problem with most of the rest of it. I do doctor up almost everything except the chocolate and swiss mocha shakes - those are fine alone. But the soups I always add pepper or other spices or I use my free cup of bouillion and add it to the soup to make more of it and change the flavor.

The best tip that I've found on here is to let your things sit for a while. I put the water and soup together in a tupperware bowl and let it sit either overnight or if I forget, I do it in the morning. By noon when I have it, it is so much better. Everything is soft and the flavors are more pronounced. It really does make a difference. And letting the shakes sit for at least an hour is also good.

Hope that was informative. Happy shaking!!!
