I've been a bad girl

Postby Nite Izes » April 27th, 2004, 8:29 am

no, not really.....

as you know, I was told Friday, to stop the Medifast regime and eat only small regular meals since I am to have a colonoscopy test due tomorrow. Well, I analyzed this alot and felt there is no reason why I should stop and on my own decided to continue with my Medifast meals (against MD orders). I was never on a complete liquid program to start off with. I just did not want to break the weight loss cycle by increasing the food intake.

I know I shouldn't go against my MD, but I see no danger or complications to avoid Medifast during these moments leading to the colonscopy. If it was medication, I understand, but Medifast is considered "FOOD". It is a meal replacement and I feel comfortable taking it. I have never had any side effect or issues since I have been on it. Guess what, I did not gained any weigh and am now 269 lbs.

Now my scheduled colonoscopy for tomorrow has being cancelled (due to heavy menstruation). So there is no need to take that dreaded colon flush med today. It was meant to be and the best thing is I feel good about myself. When my MD told me to stop, I was a bit shocked and could not come up with an answer to defend my regime. After leaving the offce and allowing me to think this through, I realized, I should continue. I called my MD yesterday morning and explained that I see NO REASON to halt since it is a healthy meal replacement and it is not medication. She agreed and said that it was ok. This issue had me bummed out since I was told to stop.

Now I can continue where I left off and feel like a great loser (in a positive sense). The colonscopy test has been scheduled for a later date and when that time comes, I will continue my Medifast since the MD gave me the OK.

... and I did say (but in my own words) what Unca Tim wrote in my previous post that Medifast is a

"FDA medically approved, clinically tested and used by Johns' Hopkins University, medically formulated, balanced, full of good stuff food. They want you to eat processed, unbalanced, by guess and by gosh combination of who knows what you'll eat foods, in comparison to a medically balanced program?"

It convinced my GI. Thanks Unca for the input, it helped me alot.

Hi Nite,
I'm glad things worked out for you. I'm also glad you explained my position in your own words. That post i made was a little convoluted and rambling because i was a little choked at the time about the intructions you got from your MD.

I should have gotten more info from you on your MD's position and why they wanted you to discontinue Medifast. If it was a total fast pre-examination to clear your colon, i wouldn't have had a problem. If they told you to discontinue with no alternative on what foods to eat, i would have a problem. I certainly didn't want you to go against Drs. orders.

Many MD's dont know much, if anything, about Medifast, and the first they they think when they hear the name is it's some kind of Medication or fad diet. You can't blame them and we should all take a couple packages so they can see the ingredients, if they have any questions about it's use.

There's nothing but "good stuff" and the highest quality ingredients in Medifast.

Glad things are well with you.
:)

Hi Unca, I knew what you meant when you wrote it and it had me wondering for awhile. Thanks for your support, Landylue, those that sent me private messages and the rest of the gang.

Her concerns were that the Medifast intake were too small and did not want me to pass out after I take the colon flush.

My GI doc was not in and this GI specialist was covering for her that day. I took a pic of the nutritional data on the side and faxed it to her yesterday. This woman had me wired. She saw that it was ok since I do eat a regular meal and am not on a full liquid.

Now when I have the colonscopy done, I can take it as usual. On the day that I have to take the med to flush out my system, that still will be a clear liquid only, then full fast for the exam.

Hi Nites Izes!

I had a Medifast battle with my doctor too!
I had Pulmonary embolism( which can be deadly) exactly 2 months ago. I had to come off medifast and then fight to get back on, because my doctor kept telling me that I really shouldn't be on it because of all teh vitamin k in it! I argued him hard!! I pointed to the risk of future blood clots if i ddin't get the weight off FAST!!! and I wanted to be off medifast by the time my 6 month therapy on anti-coagulant was over. And each week for 6 weeks, he kept telling to come off since I wasn't hitting the therapeutic range of Coumadin( that's the drug)..but I refused and kept tossing things out of my diet. and after being off for 4 weeks I slowly added medifast back until I got to full (5 a day) and got rid of all the greens, got rid of tea, got rid of anything outside of medifast that had Vitamin K in it! It still wasn't working. So i started playing around with the plan. Went down to 4 medifast ( on full fast day) and 3 with lean meat and with or without Non-green veggies. IT worked!! After 6 weeks, my anticoagulant hit range and my doctor finally told me" You win...keep the same diet for the duartion of the medication therapy and we're good to go"
I stuck to medifast and was willing to take a big risk, because i believe it will help me lose the weight that is creating all my health problems in the first place!
I have been stable for 3 weeks now...and the weight that was stalled during my (10 days hospital stay+4 weeks off) is dropping off again..

This is the power of belief! I believe in Medifast and That's that!
