Becel Topping & Cooking Spray

Postby LosingIt » February 1st, 2007, 10:03 am

I've read alot about this ICBINB that the Americans use as a topping. I could not find it here in Canada but I did find Becel Topping & Cooking Spray.

Here is the skinny:

Nutrition Facts

Per 5 sprays (2 tsp):

Calories - 0
Total Fat - 0
Cholesterol - 0
Sodium - 15mg
Carbs - 0
Protein - 0

Ingredients:

Water, soybean oil, salt, xanthan gum, soy lecithin, polysorbate 60, lactic acid, beta-carotene, potassium sorbate, artificial flavour, calcium disodium EDTA, citric acid. May contain traces of milk ingredients.

Seems like it is a perfect alternative.

Should I be limiting my use in any way?

I'm not going crazy with it but I may want to use about 5-10 sprays on some days. A few sprays on my oatmeal muffin/cake (thanks Marseille for that recipe. I was digging around the Lean Cuisine section and found it.) and a few sprays on my fish/veggies when I have my L&G.

Would that be too much sodium overall? I have not been using salt to season any of my other foods. I usually stick to Mrs. Dash & pepper for those.

ICBINB

You probably know this, but just in case, ICBINB is shorthand for "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter". It is produced by the Unilever Corp. Their website has a Store Locator Service. Their website is at

This came on the market back in the early 90's as a margarine spread. the spray version came out a few years ago.
It does have a pretty convincing buttery taste

Glad to hear others are using it - I'm only 1 month in, and was wondering if it was "legal"

Yup, I knew it stood for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and I checked 3 different grocery stores and couldn't find it here. ;)

It looks like the Becel product has the exact same Nutrition Info so they are definitely comparable.

Is there any limit to how much we can use?

Just don't go overboard. A tablespoon of the spray has as much fat and calories as a tablespoon of margerine. A few sprays and no more are fine.
