I ate some boiled cabbage today

Postby bikipatra » March 13th, 2005, 8:25 pm

It didn't really feel like cheating. I am on the diabetic plan so I am supposed to eat a meal but I don't trust myself with "real" food. I ate some chili and oatmeal today along with 3 shakes. The chili is TERRIBLE!!! I tried seasoning it but I still hate it. Today is my second day on the plan. I lost 6 lbs in 24 hours!

Try this with the chili: add in a beef bouillon cube or packet, a teaspoon or so of dried onion flakes, a quarter to a half teaspoon of garlic powder, half a teaspoon to a teaspoon of chili powder, and half a teaspoon of cumin. I nuke the chili without that stuff first, for about a minute, then add that stuff, stir, and nuke again for another minute. Sometimes I open a packet of the Medifast snack crackers and throw that in after it comes out of the nuke. I think it's pretty yummy!

You can also jazz up the chicken noodle soup with a chicken bouillon cube, a few drops of Mongolian Fire Oil, and a splash of vinegar. Yummy!

Isn't it funny how people's tastes are different? I can't stand the creamy tomato soup (although I love the tomato FastSoup), and in fact it's the one Medifast product that I didn't finish. Drank about a third of it and threw the rest away. Thank goodness I had ordered only a sample, and not a whole box!

Tastes are strange! I gotta back you up, 24K, on the creamy tomato soup. I normally love tomato soup, but I took 3 sips of that stuff and threw out not only that serving but the rest of the box. I knew right away that no amount of spice doctoring could fix that! ;) But mmmm, I do love my chili!!!

I just wish the MF product developers would come out with a legal plate of nachos, complete with chili, sour cream, gobs of melted cheddar cheese, and jalapenos, all reconstitutable with a half cup of water. I have this picture in my head of 3 skinny people in lab coats at the MF plant playing with beakers and protein powder, wringing their hands evilly and going, "No, let's not give 'em pizza. Toss that recipe out. Hmmm... I know! Let's take that yucky tomato soup, toss some unidentifiable veggies in it, and call it minestrone! Yeah!"

;) Just kidding. I love most of the MF stuff and do appreciate the variety. And I really admire the folks who did the complete fast back when MF offered only shakes. Yikes! I'd never have survived without my oatmeal!

MediFast pizza -- now that would probably make the company more money than Bill Gates!

I do like the MediMinestrone soup, and it's probably the only one I don't doctor up more than just to pour some salt into it. It's nice and yummy on a cool day after my noontime walk.

I agree with you, rae, about how the variety makes it possible for me to stay on it. I'm not sure I could have done it when it was only shakes, also. In fact, now that the protocol has changed so that you don't have to have any shakes at all if you want, I find that some days I have only one (like yesterday). I have oatmeal every morning for breakfast, and then often make oatmeal cookies as my last meal of the day.

And the chocolate pudding . . . mmm, I bet I could eat that five MediMeals a day, at least for awhile! lol

I agree with you ladies. I am not a big fan of the chili but it is ok. I love the chicken noodle! Oh man, I am getting head hungries just thinking about it! I decided if I do not lose much this week I am going to cut out the bars. But, LORD NO, please let me lose as I LOVE those bars!!

Several people have told me that they add a tablespoon of salsa to the chili to add flavor. You also need to allow the ingredients to fully hydrate also. The only thing to be careful is to not use salsa with sugar (yes some have added sugar!)

I put salsa in the Creamy tomato soup and it's spicy and pretty good. And I admit I'm not sure I could stick with this without the oatmeal.
