Anyone tried making "ice cream"?

Postby SPMUSTANG » April 24th, 2006, 6:42 am

Has anyone tried turning the shakes or pudding into ice cream with a real ice cream maker? I made pudding pops--they were good but just not as creamy as I wanted. I just wondered if anyone had tried this with an appliance from the "pre-MF" days. Maybe I could try the method where you partially freeze the stuff, scoop it up and blend it, then refreeze. The cooks out there might know what I mean---sorry if this sounds like Greek to the "cooking impaired". :D

I haven't done mine in an ice cream freezer, but I have made mine in an ICEE machine. I bought it last summer at bed bath and beyond. Just put the shake in, put the ice and salt around the canister, turn it on and wait. It is not really creamy like Ice Cream, but it is really cold and frosty like an ICEE from the convenience store.

I have one of those "newer style" ice cream makers where you freeze the bowl, and then pour your stuff in. I have used it to make ice cream with the shakes and pudding. I mix 1 shake and 1 pudding in the blender, sometimes I add some S/F syrup, then pour into the frozen bowl, turn on, and in about 20 min I have ice cream. But remember it makes 2 servings! I'm going to try some of the fruit drinks to see if I can make a sorbet.

It turned out really well. My husband really likes it, and he's not on the program!

Hope this helps.

Crystal--where did you get the ice cream maker? Can I get one at a store like Bed Bath and Beyond? I looked at Target and could only find the big things that make a half gallon.

Ice Cream

Postby PJinCali » April 30th, 2006, 8:19 pm

Hi All.

I have the same type of icecream maker (freeze the bowl) and got it from Amazon dot com. Mine is the Cuisinart ICE-20 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt, and Sorbet Maker and is white. It was less than $50 (good deal for all the ice cream and sorbet we have made in it) :D You can check it out on Amazon and shop around.

It comes with a small book of recipes.

That is the same as mine. I got mine at Sam's Club a few years ago. Sorry this is so late, I just saw it. :D

I don't think so, ;) but if you're interested, I can tell you how to do it "camping style" using a ziplock bag, ice and salt! :eat: It works pretty well, and you get your exercise while shaking it, too! :D
