If I wasn't a hag, I'd NEVER get to go dancing! Hag since 15, beard since 20! Luckily I don't have to beard much anymore because it sucked! But we have to do what we have to do to make the people we love happier and more comfortable around their birth family!

Hag---Beard---I am so confused. Gay, I understand. I have friends who are gay. My cousin recently hat a commitment ceremony with her significant other. But I have never heard of a Hag or a Beard. I feel like such a dummy. Ya'll have to remember---farm girl here!!

ok, some quick jargon:

hag: short for 'fag hag.' a fag hag is a girl that has extremely close relationships with gay men. there is a derogatory definition of it as well, but there's no need to post it.

beard: a woman who poses as a gay man's "date" to help him avoid being outed. the male counterpart for a lesbian is a "merkin." merkin is a great and hilarious word, but you'll have to google it yourself.

family: gay. because a lot of us lose our close family or friends when we come out-- so all gay people are each other's family.

FOD: friend of dorothy. tribute to the gay icon judy garland. simply means gay.

Nelly: very effeminant

UHAUL: common joke that lesbians move in together on the second date

this could be a lot longer, obviously, but it gives you enough to understand the posts.

and, as it appears, there is no other family on mf.

Well, that is what I needed. A "dictionary" of sorts. As for no other family on board, that is just going tohave to be okay. I will take you into my family. The way I see it, it takes some of every kind to make the world go around. I used to be in the staffing industry. There were a few guys who liked to temp work around at various places. They always invited me out to watch them "perform" in the few gay clubs we have here. Now, please don't get offended, but I am fixin to stereotype a bit. The thing I like about gay people is that they are so understanding and non judgemental. I could go to a gay club and dance with my girlfriends, my guy friends, or my husband and no one would ever blink an eye. Take my gay friends to a regular club and them get out on the dance floor together---completely different story. I guess the criticism and prejudice you get from your relatives, friends, and the general public plays a role in being more understanding and less judgemental. I don't know. But anyway, if you are ever in Amarillo, look me up---I will fix you a shake and we can go see a movie or something. Okay??

Merkin---too funny. I might need one of those. I only have "coverage" during pregnancy. I feel like I look like a 10 year old little girl. UGH!! I know---TMI

I'm "family" but I suppose I'm more cousin than close kin, considering I'm bi. 95% of my best friends are G/L/B/T, ditto most of the folks I generally hang out with.
