Any event planners?

Postby iammissruth » December 6th, 2007, 8:31 am

I know.... I know.... I'm using every one's knowledge and resources. :o But I have one more favor to ask. Is there anyone who likes to plan events or is an event planner?
I am trying to narrow down some locations for my friend to look at, for her wedding, while in San Diego in a few weeks. All the searches that I have tried bring up ceremony and reception locations, and she wants her wedding ceremony at one and then drive to another. (I think to cut down on costs) Any one have any suggestions on how to find one or the other and not both?
Thanks in advance,
Ruthetta

I've often fodn in cheaper to hold events in the same location to cut down on costs - normally this is the les expensive way to go. Plus, you have the added benefit of not asking your guests to drive to another location....and some will just drive away and not go to the next location (unless they're all in from out of state and then they normally don't have any other place to go - lol).

Also, have you asked if you can just do one or the other at the places you have found? What type of 'location' is she looking for? That might help bring up different thoughts...
:-).

When I got married, I wanted to drive from one location to the other for several reasons, but the biggest one was to "brag" about getting married. You know the honking horns, ride in the limo (which was a gift from a friend). Maybe that is why she wants to travel, most brides that I worked with when I was doing wedding coordinating were the same way. Since she is in San Diego has she considered a wedding on the beach or pier? While you would have to consider weather - money wouldn't be an issue since it is free. Check out hotels where they hold conventions and stuff for the reception. Also, check out bed and breakfast establishments in the area for the ceremony. Many of those places are BEAUTIFUL and while they wouldn't want to hold the reception there, many would welcome the ceremony. Is the "Big Yellow House" restarant still in business out there? If so, they used to do weddings. Also, check with organizations like Veterens of Foreign Wars, Lions Club, Shriners etc. Many of those organizations have halls for their meetings, but they don't use them all the time so they rent them out for events.

Feel free to PM me if you want more help. I did this for a living in San Bernardino and Arizona when we lived there.

Depending on the size of the event, Di and I attended a wedding in San Diego a few years back and it was at a nice Brew Pub/Gardens. I know, sounds funky, but it was a very pretty venue and the reception was right there.

I looked it up, here is the name: KARL STRAUSS BREWERY GARDENS 9675 SCRANTON RD SAN DIEGO, CA 92121 (858) 587-2739

Since I'd have to be drunk to get married again this venue would be perfect for me - LOL!

I suggested that. But she wants the "formal" wedding in SoCal with all of their family.

There's always the San Diego Zoo...

Wait, isn't there a really pretty park there up on a hill somewhere with old buildings and stuff? Mike and I wound up there once just meandering around the city. (Ok, how's that for helpful?) Or what about the beach at sunset? Not formal enough?

I like Unca's Elvis idea -- whole lot more formal than SeaWorld!

There's GOT to be someplace in Old Town or in the historic district that would work. What about on one of the ships? An evening cruise around the harbor/bay or a cruise out to Catalina Island?

Just reminiscing...not really focused on being helpful. Karl Strauss was the only good idea generated at the McClelland Lookout.
Here's to our mutual success! :buddies: --Diana
