Another Good Day

The fun just keeps on coming!

Had a check up with my Dr today. Had last seen him a bit over 3 months ago and since he changes my BP medication he wanted to see me again now. When I last saw him in August, I had lost about 40 pounds which he was very happy with and my cholesterol had already dropped dramatically.

My weight today was about 35 pounds less than it was in August. His jaw about hit the floor! He just couldn't get over how successful I'd been - it was almost like he'd never had a patient who had lost so much weight. He questioned me extensively about my exercise schedule, etc. and said he thought I was at a perfect weight range for my height. He said I should maintain between 150 and 160 and that I should use 160 as my trigger for nipping things in the bud before they become a problem. Said I could actually gain 5 pounds if I wanted to! Believe me - I've NEVER heard that before from a doctor!

I weighed in at 152 today - down another pound since I started transition. I have not weighed this little since I was about 19 - that's 20 years ago folks!

Thanks for the goosebumps, Sylvia--I love hearing your good news :D! I'm sure you must be feeling that often elusive euphoria that Mike's always talking about ;)! Good for you.

By the way Sylvia, do you have a caloric intake scheme, of sorts, that you are slowly building back up to? If so, what level are you at now? It's nice to know that we can still drop a few pounds while transitioning.

Thanks for sharing your experiences--it's great to hear about your continuing success :).

Yea Sylvia!!! I too would love to know the answer to the caloric question. SOunds like you building back slowly. Do you work out? I figured that when I hit transition I'll need to begin working out more...

It's great to hear how wonderful your doing, 'cause the idea of going off program is scary... I've been doing full fast for about 2 months now, and while I'm sure "regular" food will taste great, I have a "healthy fear" of it to! I'd love to read as much from you transitioners as possible!

Well, right now, I'm generally following the MF transition plan which has you slowly add back regular foods and slowly decrease the amount of supplements you have each day. I have added back everything but bread/grains (start that tomorrow) and am now down to roughly 3 supplements a day.

I say generally, because I'm actually eating far more vegetables than I'm supposed to and have had other little tastes of things along the way. It is still a fairly prescribed program.

The scary part comes when I'm done with transition next week and move officially to maintenance. I actually started going to Weight Watchers a few weeks ago and plan to use the point system to help me figure out how much I am able to eat without gaining weight. I also plan to get my resting metabolism rate checked in a few weeks to see where it is so I will get a decent idea of how many calories I can consume each day.

Yes, I do exercise - I try to do something every day and have been doing so consistently since July. The difference this time is that instead of setting a too aggressive and probably unrealistic schedule, I have fit it in when and where I can. So I walk a couple of miles a day 5 days a week, I ride bikes with my family on the weekends, I do 20 mins of pilates most nights and have just started lifting weights a couple of days a week. These are all things I like to do and most are combined with other activities. I have also just added activity. I park farther away, walk up the stairs to my office every day (I work on the 7th floor) and just generally try to be more active.

I am trying to make small, incremental lifestyle changes that I can maintain for the long run rather than an overly aggressive program that will fizzle out too quickly. So far so good.
