I quit watching when Chris was voted off last year.

I'm happy about tonight, I was glad to see Melinda go, that girl REALLY irritated me. Her fake "surprised" look at everything bugged the everloving crap out of me.

Still like Blake, I think it's great something other than Fantasia or Kelly version 2.0 comes out of AI.

Now that I think about it though, I've always rooted more for the guys than the girls, with the exception of Carrie Underwood.

Let's remember, this is the same audience that voted off much better artists than Sanjaya Malakar just a few short weeks ago. If it were an actual talent search then people who actually know music would be making the decisions... not the American public.

After all, we gave a Grammy to Milli Vanilli, and made Vanilla Ice rich for a time.

Personally, I think that Jordin is the "American Idol" based on what people look for, especially given her age. Blake has a uniqueness about him that will ensure nice things to come for him. Melinda will definitely get a nice contract and she has a great audience.

Its sad that America can't recognize the true talent in Melinda, but America tends to be most about newness and "cuteness" rather than who is the best.

My guess is still Jordin over Blake. (It was Jordin over Melinda... but guess that idea is over).

I have to say I am pretty bored with it. I started watching it. Then turned the channel to find repeats of The Biggest Loser. That was much more fun.

I did not like Melinda. I thought she had a good voice. But Jordin has an awesome voice. But the true person I wanted to win got voted of last week. Lakesha. Loved her. Loved her personality. Very humble

August........ YaY. I wish they would change it up though and have 2 winners. 1 girl and 1 guy. I'm sorry the people that have one are always guys and they have so much more weight to lose then the women so the percentage is going to be a lot higher.

I am still proud to say that after being a former AI addict, I have not watched ONE episode this time!

I second that Mike!!

Melinda is clearly the better artist; voice wise, performance wise, etc. The way I pick my winner is, would I pay $50 or more to see a live 1 hour concert of just that person performing? And I would for Melinda! To me, she is Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin rolled up into on new modern package. She will be a star, No Doubt! :star:

I want to se Jordin win it. She was my second choice.

I think this show FINALLY lost me as a viewer, thanks to that finale. Two hours and they still hadn't announced the winner (not that anyone didn't know who it was, anyway, especially given the producers' choice of songs). I never watch it live, so I can fast-forward through all the filler - so I actually had to go online to find out who won, because my recording ended after the scheduled two hours. Jerks.

I'm going to talk to our TV critic about it. I think he oughta write something.

Robin
I could not agree with you more. I started watching it. And was so bored I actually cleaned. I did not find out until this morning.

The entertainment was great last night.
I just don't like how they give out the silly awards to the odd people.
This show is watched by so many American children .....that part is really rude and tells them that its ok to make fun of different people.

I dunno guys...
I've never been the biggest fan of the show - I mean, I watch it most of the time, but eh...it's not that big of a deal to me. The finale, however, was great. Yeah, it did run long so TiVo users across the land were gypped, but the "filler??" OMG, the "filler" was Smokey Robinson, Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, (the reunited) BeBe and CeCe Winans, and Bette Midler, with Joe Perry on guitar... that's quite a lineup!! I watch the finale shows for the filler more than for the actual outcome of who won!

Okay, so here's what I hated about the show...I could definitely have done without the stupid "awards" stuff. I thought it was horrible to bring back people just to make fun of them ~ especially the guys who won the "buddies" award. They went so far as to display a photo of a bush baby and declare that they've sponsored a zoo monkey on the guy's behalf. That's just SO wrong! The poor kid said that he forgave Simon for what he'd said because without it he wouldn't be where he is now. Uhm, yeah...and where is that, exactly? On the AI Finale show being exploited for laughs...yet again?? Shame on them.

Yeah, okay, now I'm p.o.'d all over again...

Aretha? Did I fast-forward past Aretha Franklin?? I didn't see her there.

I watched Tony Bennett, because I love him. And Gladys Knight. Watched the Winans people only because of Melinda, but I didn't like them at all (especially the woman, whichever one she is) and I hated the song. Skipped Gwen Stefani (I usually like her, but not this time), Green Day, Bette Midler (I HATE her version of that song; I can't even say how much I hate it), Smokey Robinson (he sounded great, but he's had way too much Botox and plastic surgery; I couldn't stand to look at that face); Joe Perry (because wasn't he playing while Sanjaya was singing?). Listened to bits of all the former Idols, but couldn't listen to a whole song from any of them (except maybe the one Carrie Underwood song). And couldn't bear to hear them ruin the Beatles stuff.

The awards stuff was dreadful. But they've gone way overboard the past few years with making fun of the horrible and delusional auditioners. How many weeks of that stuff do they run now before the actual show starts?? I didn't watch most of it this year, because it's gotten too mean-spirited, even for me.

My bad...it was Gladys Knight.
Not quite the DIVA as is Ms. Franklin, but iconic nonethless!

Tony Bennett and Gladys Knight ROCK. The Winans haven't performed together in several years, so that was interesting to watch...they sing gospel, so maybe that's why the song wasn't to your liking? I, personally, didn't much care for the song either, though I actually enjoy gospel now and then. I missed the first part of the show because of class, so I didn't see Gwen Stefani - and I thought that Green Day was just aiiight (shrug). There was something "off" about Bette Midler's voice, maybe she has a cold or something - but she's always fun to watch. I love the Divine Miss M ~ not as much as Jerry Springer does, apparently...did you see the shot of his face during her performance? He's could be the new "crying girl !!" I did with Smokey Robinson what I used to do with Elliot Yamin, just closed my eyes and listened. Mmmmm. (I understand Elliot has had a recent makeover, but I have yet to see him. Good for him!) And Joe Perry? Even Sanjaya couldn't ruin his awesomeness! He played a couple of times though - I don't remember when else, but he's incredible. Oh, yeah, it was with Kelly Clarkson and they started off the Beatles stuff with Sgt. Pepper...the rest of the Beatles tribute I could've lived without, but did you catch the duet between Ruben and Jordin? They performed the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell classic, "You're All I Need to Get By." I thought they did a great job, and I really enjoyed it ~ but then again, I loved that Velvet Teddy Bear, so I could be biased! Carrie Underwood has a wonderful voice, and she is really beautiful, but holy crap! what was she wearing? Is that what cowgirls wear to the prom?? Jeans or ballgown...pick one, sweetie, but please don't wear them together!! That was bizarre.

OMG ~ I said I couldn't be called the biggest fan of the show...but you couldn't tell it by my gushing, huh? WHATEVER! "Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes." ~ Walt Whitman

So there!

I saw Elliot when he did a guest spot on Idol a week or so ago. He looked ... interesting? Better than before, I guess. And speaking of Ruben, he looked like he lost some weight (last time I swear, I was afraid he was going to drop dead of a heart attack right on the stage). Good for him!!
