Okay, I'll loan you my fave dog name...but I still get to use it on my next puppy. It's appropriate for either gender... it's Mojo. How could you not love a puppy that's named after a good luck charm? Also my fave female pup name, "Poppy", but maybe that's just because I'm from CA and I love poppies so much. Might not be appropriate for a big dog though. What kind of pup is she??

my puppy is at the vet.

she's kind of crazy-- and i love her for it, inspite of it... whatever.
but she bounces all over furniture, hates any sort of delivery person (the mailwoman is her arch nemesis), and is rarely still for a period over 30 seconds. i was in the next room when i heard a little yelp.

my dog NEVER cries. she got bitten badly at the dog park when she was a puppy and didn't let out a whimper.... so, i ran into the room, and she was waiting for me with her back leg off the ground. it wouldn't hold any weight at all. i think she may have fallen off the back of the couch, because she thinks she is part mountain goat and perches up there. before we left our previous home, she had a much bigger couch, but she really will never break the habit.

she would not leave y side for a second. when i went to get dressed, she fell/hopped/stumbled after me, so i just grabbed her and took her to the vet. they're sedating her to try to get some xrays. i hope she's ok.... she's my bestest friend.

she cried, and struggled, and snarled when they touched her back (and her knee). the vet thinks it might just be her knee, though. i don't know. i just know i feel awful cause those gentle brown eyes were begging me to help her and i can't. that makes me feel like crap. this poor dog has had such a rough 5 months as it is.

i don't even care that this is going to give my credit card one hell of a workout. i just need my buddy.

Alex, I'm so sorry. Let us know what it is when you find out. My Maggie has had surgery on BOTH her knees over the years. She also is very stoic and never, ever cries. The only time I've seen her cry out was when the vet was manipulating her leg to see what was wrong.

The surgery went great, though, and even at 12 years old, she runs like a puppy after squirrels and birds and her little brother. (If your puppy has a torn ACL, I can't recommend the TPLO surgery any more highly. It's more costly than the basic surgery to repair it, but IMHO it was SOOOOO worth it.)

Oh Alex, I'm so sorry that you're experiencing such trauma. I have two dogs who I think of as my children, so I know exactly how you feel. I hope Lilly (right?) is okay, with nothing too serious going on. I also know how you feel about not caring how much it costs to relieve her pain--we have spend thousands of dollars at the vet, and would never even give a thought to not having a procedure done that would help.

Sending good vibes and positive energy your way...

yeah. torn acl it is.
i wish she understood that her mommy is a newly single grad student with a buttload of debt thanks to the end of our last relationship-- but, noooooo...
<sigh> this sucks. best case scenario, everything said & done, $4,000. anyone wanna help me flip a coin to decide how i will divide this among my credit cards?
i'm so not worried about mf anymore. i think it's clearly no longer in the cards once my current supply runs out. but puppy's gotta be able to run.

my crazy ass dog is trying to hop on furniture and be a menace on 3 legs-- with sedation and all. this definitely reinforces my decision to have the tplo done on monday. it also lets me know that her behavior will never change. she's a nut. poor baby is going to be spending a lot of time in her crate for the next several weeks.

Alpha,

I am so sorry to hear about Cleopuptra :( But good to see she is still a terror on three legs!

Hmmmm, $4,000. Ouch. Serious clams, but of course ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I would be crafty and break down the cards by interest rate. Max out the lowest rate one first, then if necessary, move up to the next card in the tier with the remaining cost.

I'm guessing you'll have to carry the balance for a while so minimize your interest penalties ;)

This is of course only applies if you and the furry one do not hit up a bank. Though I am sure both of you would be fetching in bandannas 8)

We will miss you if you leave  I, for one, love reading your stuff! But I can be content with your puppy's blog :D

Stay cool.

i do have a 0% card. i'll just have to hope that "miz i-can't-stop-jumping-off-sh*t" appreciates this. i love her, though. she really is my baby. we used to go everywhere together when we lived in long beach-- from parks, shopping, to grocery stores (lb is very dog friendly). as she got older, she became VERY intolerant of other girl dogs (fairly normal). my ex used to refer to us as "homo and lilly" (usually in a disapproving tone because we were in to something we shouldn't have been, rough-housing, or napping with our shoes on...). she really is my best friend.
it makes me nuts knowing she is in pain-- and even crazier to think about her being under anesthesia. i know it has to be done, but still...
it's kind of weird how strong our bond is. she's been kind of standoffish since all the changes took place (there's no way to explain to a puppy why you have to take her away from her home), but whenever a dog emergency comes around, she refuses to tolerate anyone but me. yeah, she's a "caution dog" all the way. and she can talk to me with her eyes and her woofs. the incredible thing is, i usually understand.
