I've known a few women who have had bypass surgery. One of them lost an amazing amount of weight and she's like a size 6/8 now. It's been maybe 13.5 months since she had it done so I can't really speak to her habits.

Another friend of mine had it done many years ago. Sadly she has pretty much undone all the work since she has stretched out her stomach to the point where she can (while in pain) eat or drink large amounts of food or alcohol. I don't think she's as large as she was (I didn't know her then), but she's definitely gone back to the overweight/obese side of the scale. :(

A third friend had it done I think about 6 years ago. She continues to maintain a decent weight, but from what I understand it is a struggle.

---

We do follow a very similar diet to what all of these women followed after their surgeries. The difference is that when they came out of surgery and were eventually healed they had no stomach. They didn't have an empty void (of stomach) waiting to be filled (with food). We do. So we have to learn restraint and portion control without the additional "help" they get from the surgery. I'm glad I never went that route. I'm not particularly happy about my ability to eat a whole pizza, but I'm glad I don't have to worry about malabsorption of my nutrients due to the surgery and all of the complications that could occur.

Now I've overeaten to the point where I was in pain, but from what I have witnessed it can't even begin to compare to the pain I've seen my friends mentioned above experience.

One of them can't even vomit successfully (this is not in connection with overeating but with food poisoning, illness, and a couple times she got way too drunk). I guess because everything passes out of the pouch so quickly that if you're ill you are sol. no pukey for you. that would stink :( sometimes you just need to to feel better.

ok, this is going to sound weird-- and lots of you are going to think i'm full of it, which is why i've never talked about it before-- but i can tell when i'm losing weight.

let me explain. most days, i feel normal. nothing special, i'm not aware of my body (which is niiiiiice after weighing 400# and hurting everyhwere at sompoint). but there are days when i'll feel this weird grinding in my stomache-- more like my side b my ribs. my lower back will feel the grinding. like my body is eating itself for lack of a better description. after these days, i know i will weigh myself and be down a poun or two the next day. (gee, i hope this talking about it doesn't jinx it :o( )

see, i knew some of you would be all, "yeah, right." but it's true. it's like non-painful cramps followed by scale soothing. does anyone else experience this? i know, i know, y'all think i'm crazy....

lately, people have been asking me about mf. and i've been honest with them. no one believes i like it though!

"the butt bucket"

i've always been bottom heavy. the weight finally started coming off my ass when i began medifast-- and i'm grateful. what i have noticed now is that my thighs are still heavy, but my butt and stomache are going down. this is a truly great thing. really! i can't stress enough how awful it is to have shirts that are huge around your chest and shoulders-- because they have to be big enough to stretch around the dunky.

however, an od phenomenon has been caused by my shrinkage. i call it "the butt bucket." yep, all of my pants are fited on the thigh-- and looser around my ass, like i'm a weeble set in a little bucket. i know it will probably even out soon. it's just weird (and kind of funny) for now.

i can wear 20s these days, and i'm not even rocking the extra large muffin tops on the side, so that makes me feel pretty good. wearing fitted shirts from the regular people stores? even better!

but i still have to laugh when i feel the butt bucket. i's also like to note that all of my chonies are too big. :-P

Alex, I swear I just told my husband last week that I have a growling in my stomach (not exactly like hunger) and I think it was my body losing weight. He just rolled his eyes  but now I'm going to read him your post! Thanks, I'm not a liar!
Also, (joking around in a loving, teasing way) my husband told me that my name on the forum should be ChunkerBunker! I crack up when he calls me that! He said he could start posting as ChunkerBunker's Husband! Silly, I know.
BTW, you are doing soooo great! I love reading your posts...they help me alot.

So wait.. did you/do you have a shelf ass? I have a flat one. And it's flatter now. In fact, I have wrinkles where my butt cheeks connect to my thighs because the skin is sagging. I almost constantly feel like my pants are falling down (sometimes they are) because I don't have enough ass to support them. My undies too although they are sometimes pushed down because they slide under my belly bulge and fall down my butt, but I like to believe it's because I have a flat butt not because I have a rolly abdomen :D

I really hope this pilates thing shores my butt back up.

today is day 105 on medifast.

i'd be cmpletely lying if i said i didn't think i'd be farther along by now. with as much weight as i have to lose, i should be dropping a little faster. then again, since i have lost a grant, that definitley affects my minimum calories base line. the upshot? i'm losing an average of .47# a day. if i can keep that consistant, i'll be the happiest girl in the world... well, subtracting any girls who win the lottery.

since we have sarted using terms like benjamin, grant, and jackson to quantify our loses, i propose a new tradition. fattydays. it's when all of your friends and family come to a party to celebrate your shrinking ass-- no alcohol or food, of course, and they give you the amount of weight you have lost in dollars (so you can buy new clothes-- like underwear!).

oh, i know it isn't their faulty we got fat. but it isn't my fault some of them got knocked up, and i have shelled out for a lot of baby crap over the last few years.

I swear Alex I dont think I have laughed so hard in a while! Thank Heavens Craig is gone or he would think I am loony.

Also I agree with buying new underwear..mine is all way loose but I aint at a place where I enjoy it yet so I am enduring LOL

ugh. i can't remember when i ended my last period, but i hope i'm about to start. i feel bloated and horrible (not typical for me) and my weight has fluctuated up a # or two-- but not down.

since there is NO WAY to gain weight at my current caloric intake, i figure it has to be pms.... but it sucks! and i don't want to be otr in vegas, so i need to start right this second!!! yeah, i'm sure that will happen.

i think i'm packing the MB and taking it with me. that is not a guarantee that i will not choose to go off plan, but the thought of not being able to get back on fills me with anxiety-- and the idea of gaining weight is terrifying.
yeah, i know, i'm trading one e.d. for another, but i'll deal with that in 100# or so.

i typically do a huge amount of walking in vegas-- no matter how damn hot it is, so eating a meal or two is probably a good idea. the drinking i will inevitably do with my buddy? not so much.
