After Being Sick, Now What?

Postby 24KaratGold » June 3rd, 2005, 10:27 am

I don't mean to get too graphic here, but I was quite sick, quite suddenly, last night. I spent some time in the "little room" throwing up and making other uses of the porcelain throne. My "lean and green" and the banana pudding that I had two hours later are no longer a part of me.

My stomach and intestines are fine this morning, though I'm a bit fuzzy. I am STARVING, though. I had a cup of chicken broth around 7 a.m., because I wanted to see how things were. I had my oatmeal around 9 or so, and here it is 10:30 (about the time I would normally be having my second Medi-meal of the day), and I am hungry.

Should I just go ahead and eat, since it's the time I normally would, even though it's been only an hour and a half? And if I'm hungry more during the day, possibly because of the sudden and rather violent loss of calories I had last night, should I eat more often and if necessary have an extra shake?

Thanks for any input.

24K,

I would say go ahead and eat. I'm sure your electrolytes and everything are messed up, and you lost quite a bit of nutrition last night as well. I would just eat now, and as you need to for the rest of the day.

I'd fuel up as often as you feel it's needed.

The extra nutrients, etc... should help you recover quickly.

Thanks. I just ate my bar, and will just eat when I get hungry again.

Sure hope you're on the mend today. Bless your heart...I hate that kind of illness. And I'm glad Terry jumped in to tell you to go ahead, because your body needs nutrients to get you back on your feet. Just like when someone has an extra active day on a vacation or special event and we're always told to have an extra shake for fuel...you sure need it.

Take care of yourself and I hope there's no repeat

Sick

Postby Jan » June 3rd, 2005, 8:46 pm

Hi there,
I'm sorry you were so sick. You should go ahead and eat and if you need an extra shake thats fine. Good news :D the medifast products are very easy on the digestive system so they should not trigger any problems. My daughter (a med student) had a similar thing happen to her and shakes were the only thing that stayed down but at least she got lots of protein. Hope you're feeling better.

I am feeling lots better (not like that was actually difficult), thanks. For about five hours or so last night I really was looking for somebody to shoot me, though.

Thanks for all your good thoughts, and for the advice.
