7oz before or after cooking?

Postby Prancer » July 16th, 2006, 8:13 am

Which weight is the one to take? Meat weighs less after its cooked. Which way are we supposed to be measuring?

Thanks girls. I think I have been jipping myself. I just bought a scale today, my old one broke months ago. I think I am going to start weighing my meat again.

I was jippin myself BIG TIME when I first started. I wasn't eating anywhere near the allowed portions. Now, on most days, I don't do a l&g. Only for special occassions. It just seems to work better for me! Also, I have had to start chewing a piece of gum while cooking for my family. I am just so bad about tasting stuff to make sure it isn't to hot for the kids, or too bland for the hubby or not quite done, etc. But, with a fresh piece of gum, food would just ruin it. I would not want to ruin a good piece of chewing gum, now would I??

When I started MF I was shocked at how huge the L&G portions seemed. I kept checking and rechecking the guidelines and my food portions. 7oz is a lot for a "diet" portion, but it works and I still measure to make sure I get enough.

I always seem to overestimate what the cooked weight will be. I usually end up with about 5oz. after cooking, so I'll eat a little cottage cheese to even things out.
