Weight-loss company bulks up by buying distribution company

Owings Mills-based diet product maker Medifast Inc. announced Monday that it has acquired the assets of Dunst and Associates Inc.

In addition, Medifast subsidiary Seven Crondall LLC has completed the previously announced purchase of a 119,000-square-foot distribution facility in Ridgley.

Medifast bought 15-year-old distributor Dunst and Associates Inc. for $400,000 in cash and 3,347 shares of Medifast common stock. Dunst currently handles half of the company's "pick and pack" distribution business.

The $2.6 million purchase agreement for the Ridgley distribution facility between Medifast and NewRoads Inc. was finalized Monday. The facility has the capacity to produce up to $200 million per year in Medifast products.
