Iowa Travels – Day 2…cont.

After picking Nancy up from her walk in the country we headed toward Decorah to enjoy the first full day of the Nordic Fest. Since it was a Friday and the weather was not predicted to be the best, I think it might have kept a few of the party-goers from venturing out. But it didn’t keep Nancy from getting into the Nordic Fest mood.

Norsewoman Nancy

Nancy and I KD Rae Jewelry Studioshopped in the various stores. The neat items she bought for our home back in Vancouver, Washington, will be shipped back home next week since our suitcases are already pretty full. The day was divided up into pretty wet and wild storms and wonderful sunshine with warnings in some of the surrounding counties. In face, baseball-sized hail was reported in a town just 10 miles away. Of course, just like any summer festival, there was plenty to eat and to enjoy for kids and adults. We couldn’t even begin to get to all the locations that were sponsoring events. I can see that we’ll have to return next year to enjoy the events we missed this year.

One Java John's enjoyment roomgood thing, Java John’s serves great coffee and has a very relaxing area with free WiFi to check in on our TSFL business. It was an ideal location to rest our weary feet after a long day of enjoying the Nordic Fest. Many of the people we struck up conversations with were from Norway and spoke very little english but we communicated very well.  We walked down a block to the fire station to register for tomorrows 5k run and met Darron Sander, one of the firemen. He told us about quite a few places to visit since we don’t leave until next Thursday for home. One that sounded interesting to Nancy and I is called Effigy Mounds. It is an indian burial grounds that is now a National Park. We’ll plan on finding out tomorrow when we venture that direction.
