and I awakened a little apprehensive this morning. Today is the 5k run which the event organizers call the 5k Elvelopet. Everything has a Norwegian twist to it during the Nordic Fest. In fact, walking around today and speaking with many of the people attending this weekend, I noticed that many of them didn’t speak hardly any English…a testament to the importance and authenticity of such an event as Nordic Fest if it draws so many from the Norwegian homelands.
We were well represented in the run this morning by our Decorah/Waukon MakeMeThinner Health Coach team members. Marilyn Anderson was accompanied by her sister, Karen Stamper, also a TSFL Health Coach, as a formidable running duel. It was a blast for Nancy and I to participate in our first 5k event along with over 900 others.
At the conclusion of this mornings 5k event, it was time to head toward the parade route. We drove to Marilyn’s fathers home, enjoyed his hospitality until parade time. We then walked the 4 blocks to the parade route and set up chairs. So far today the weather has been just perfect. It’s not predicted to change any for the rest of the day. The parade was led with veterans from different branches of the military carrying the ‘colors’ to every ones clapping and cheering. It was truly an exciting time to feel the presence of Americans all around us who truly love their country and their fellow man and appreciate what those who have gone before us have sacrificed to help keep America free and a place of individual opportunity. I’ve spoken to very few people so far the past two days who feel good about what is happening to our country at the present time. I would have to wholeheartedly agree with them.
